Last Friday Donna Maria enthused us all with her energy! All the children loved dancing around the Maypole. A huge thank you to the Friends of Dulwich Wood for funding this.

If you’d like to dance around the Maypole again see Donna Maria at:

This week’s learning snapshot…

Reception

The children have been using their making links tool to help Lola come up with some great ideas for a healthy and delicious picnic basket. They have been exploring what a healthy, balanced diet means, looking into all the different nutrients our bodies need to stay healthy!

Year 1

Y1 have finished their ‘Winter’s Tale’ and have spent this week using their perseverance tool to write detailed reviews.

Year 2

Y2 have been writing stories all about Puck from ‘Midsummer Night’s Dream’ using their imagination tool to come up with similes to add to their stories.

Year 3

Y3 have now met Brutus and Cassius from their play ‘Julius Caesar’ using their empathy goggles to better understand their motives and write character descriptions.

Year 4

Y4 have taken ‘Macbeth’ down conscience alley, should he or should he not kill the King?

Year 5

Y5 had a fantastic session at Kingswood Arts with artist Carlos Cortes, where we asked questions of ourselves in order to produce artworks that represented the things that are important to us. We collaborated to share a range of art materials and listen to each other’s perspectives.

Year 6

Y6 have completed all of their SATs tests! Using their entire Dulwich Wood Tool Kit, we have revised, prepared and supported each other through this difficult time of year. All the teachers are incredibly impressed with every single one of our Year 6 children.

Community News

Kingswood Arts

More and more is happening at Kingswood Arts, this weekend as part of the Dulwich Festival there will be a big art exhibition and the café is now open!

School Uniform

As flexible as we try to be regarding school uniform we must insist that your children (and our staff) do not wear shoes without a back for school because it is not safe! We know that ‘Crocs’ do have a strap at the back but children are still tripping in them especially when they are playing football and running around. Please support this rule by not allowing your children to wear them for school, this rule is made for their own protection.

Coming up

Mental Health Week

In assembly on Monday we will be reminding ourselves of our Mind Apples and what we can do to keep ourselves happy and healthy. Nature is not a cure-all but is certainly close. Outdoor activities have been shown to improve mental health so do try to build into family life regular time outside.

Friend’s of Dulwich Wood Fun Run

The children are so looking forward to the Fun Run on the last day of this half term. Please support this fund raising event by sponsoring them. We found several soggy sponsorship forms in the playground on Tuesday when they were given out! If your child has not got a sponsorship form please come and collect one from the School Office. There will be prizes for children who collect the most sponsors!

Friends are still looking for volunteers to help at this event please email friends@dulwichwood.com if you can spare an hour or two on the 26th May.
