Autumn Term Learning Journey – Stand By Me
We have had an incredibly busy but successful half-term of learning, which included an Ofsted inspection. We are incredibly proud of our report which truly captures what makes Dulwich Wood such a special place for our children, families and staff!
Find out about our learning:
Reception
This week, Reception children have been learning about different festivals, with a particular focus on Diwali, the Festival of Lights, which takes place after the half-term break. Children made links between the story, the celebrations and their own experiences of special occasions with family and friends. We continued to use our empathy tool to help us think, talk and learn together, showing curiosity about different traditions and developing an appreciation of the many ways people celebrate around the world.
Year 1
We’ve had a great half term exploring our Learning Journey, ‘Stand by Me’. The children have been learning about the importance of being a good friend, maintaining a healthy mind, and recognising trusted adults they can turn to for support. It has been fantastic to see pupils making links between these lessons and their everyday experiences. They have been great at using their empathy goggles and showing kindness towards one another, contributing to a positive and nurturing classroom environment throughout the half term.
Year 2
We have been using our making links and reasoning tools brilliantly as we partitioned numbers and used our knowledge of number bonds to solve addition sums. We’ve also been making links between our learning about the old Crystal Palace building and the Crystal Palace Football Club. The children compared the different logos and discussed which they felt best represented the history of Crystal Palace. They then enjoyed designing their very own logo for the Crystal Palace football team.
Year 3
This week, the children have impressed us with both their resilience and creativity. In maths, they have been using their perseverance tool to confidently solve addition and subtraction calculations using formal written methods. In literacy, they used their imagining and planning tools to write convincing letters asking for support in collecting genuine tears for the ‘Tear Thief’. We also took inspiration from Stormzy, creating our own raps and designing community centres aimed at bringing people together and strengthening our community.
Year 4
In Y4, we have used our reasoning tools to understand different food chains and the differences between producers, consumers, predators and prey. We also perfected our musical performances in class, using our collaboration tool.
Year 5
Y5 have used their imagining tool to write wonderful poems about freedom in literacy, making links to their learning about Nelson Mandela. They have used a range of figurative language, including similes, metaphors and personification. They needed their perseverance and reasoning tools to learn about prime, square and cube numbers!
Year 6
In literacy this week, Y6 explored how to communicate when two people don’t understand each other. Writing dialogue between two strangers led to some wonderfully creative and amusing approaches to the simple task of requesting bread!
Show Racism the Red Card Day – Wear Red Day 2026
Last Friday, we proudly took part in Show Racism the Red Card’s – Wear Red Day. Children and staff came to school dressed in red to show their support for equality, inclusion and respect, reminding us that everyone is welcome and deserves to be treated with kindness.
We ended the day by coming together in the playground for a fantastic whole-school Cupid Shuffle! It was wonderful to see everyone dancing, smiling and celebrating the diversity and togetherness that make Dulwich Wood such a special community.
It was a joyful way to share an important message: we stand together against racism, and everyone belongs at Dulwich Wood!

Parking Reminder
We would like to remind all parents and carers to park safely and considerately when dropping off and collecting their children. Please avoid parking on double yellow lines, blocking driveways or stopping in areas that could put children and pedestrians at risk.
We have received concerns about inconsiderate parking around the school, and we ask everyone to be mindful of our neighbours and the safety of our school community.
The safety of our children is everyone’s responsibility. Thank you for your cooperation and support.
