Learning Journey: Sense of Community
House Captains: In Monday’s Assembly we announced the democratically elected House & Vice Captains. We are extremely proud of all the children who prepared and delivered their speeches to their house. Well done to our new School Council!
Our Learning this week:
Reception: We are very pleased with how fantastic our staggered entry week has been in Reception, our children have been very happy playing and making new friends. It has been a wonderful start to the school year!
Year 1: This week we used our asking questions tool to find out more about our new book ‘Flooded’. The children used their 5 question stems to help them, for example, “Why is the flood here?” and “How big will the flood get?” Great!
Year 2: This week we were shocked to find our classroom flooded! First, we investigated the scene and asked questions about how the water got here and what we should do about it. Then, we used our imagination and empathy tools to write thought bubbles and diary entries about how the animals in the story might be feeling.
Year 3: We have been using our perseverance tools to look at a section of a poem called ‘The Garden Year’. We then came up with actions and bravely performed it to the rest of the class!!
Year 4: This week we have used our making links and collaboration tools to think about the role of black people in British history, ahead of starting our study of the Windrush generation next week.
Year 5: This week we have been using our imagining and asking questions tool to answer why there were so many giant water droplets around the school and in the classrooms. We worked out that it was in fact linked our new literacy book ‘Flooded’ by Mariajo Ilustrajo. We have used our empathy tool to write in role as different animals experiencing a flood!
Year 6: We have had a great start to the school year. We have enjoyed using our asking questions tool as well as our imagining tool when reading our new text ‘Flooded’. Trying to discover the reasons behind the flood and explore how each character in the text may have been feeling at different points in the text.
