A snapshot of our learning this week….

Reception children have been using their making links tool to link their story, The Magic Paintbrush to different aspects of the Chinese culture like the writing system, the food, traditional dances and stories. To celebrate the Lunar New Year they created some wonderful Chinese lanterns and lucky envelopes, had a go at the Lion Dance and singing ‘Kong Hei Fat Choy (Happy New Year in Cantonese)’.

Year 1 we used our Dulwich Wood Tool Kit really well during our school trip to the Horniman Museum. We asked questions to deepen our knowledge of toys and we enjoyed exploring the galleries making links and finding interesting facts about animals and artefacts from the 7 continents of the world.

Year 2 have been using their planning tool to design a new invention to transport us to a fantasy world. We have also been organising our ideas ready to write our very own adventure stories next week!

Year 3 have finished reading the ‘Tin Forest’ and are now using all they have learnt to make leaflets about how to look after the real forest. Please join us on our trip to Sydenham Woods on Thursday, meeting at the back gate at 9am.

Year 4 have been using their imagining tool to come up with comical instructions of how an electric pencil sharpener might work. They have also used their planning tool to create a fair test in order to see which type of materials are electrical conductors and which are electrical insulators.

Year 5 have revisited fractions and used our reasoning and asking questions tools to deepen our understanding. We also used our making links tool to discuss how fractions can help us understand how a bicycle gear works.

Year 6 were superstars using their perseverance tools during our practice SATs. In Literacy, we took part in a debate around the question ‘Should the Suffragettes have used violence?’. It produced some interesting views and counter arguments! Needless to say, the majority were against it.
