A snapshot of our learning this week….

Reception have continued our work around ‘The Magic Paintbrush’, exploring rhyme in the story. The children have been using their making links tool to identify the ending sounds in words and then coming up with words to rhyme with them.

Year 1 have had such an exciting week! Thank you, Margaret, (Otto’s mum) for sharing lots of information about architecture and being an architect. We were making links to use some of the information she shared combined with our science investigations about materials to write our letter to Iggy Peck.

Year 2 have been using their empathy tool, stepping into characters shoes, writing diaries about what they are doing and how they are feeling. We also started writing instructions for how to make a boat – next week we will be making them! In maths, we spent the week exploring multiplication with the use of arrays. This weekend, why not see if you can spot examples of an array whilst out and about.

Year 3 spent the week using our planning and collaboration tools by taking part in three different science enquiry tasks about light and shadows. We were amazed to receive a letter from the Royal Greenwich Observatory asking us to come up with our own investigation to collect evidence to show how shadows change throughout the day.

Year 4 have had a fabulous week of writing informal explanations of how everyday appliances work, using our imaging tool to extend our sentences with a variety of conjunctions and relative pronouns. We have also delved into our topic on settlements, exploring what settlers might need and what makes a good settlement.

Year 5 have been using our asking questions tool to help us understand gravity, air resistance and other forces that affect us. We have also used our perseverance and empathy tools to progress and support each other with long multiplication.

Year 6 have been using their empathy goggles to write powerful speeches in support of the Women’s Suffrage movement. We explored the lives of Annie Kenney and Christabel Pankhurst and how they came to disrupt Liberal Party meetings. We are excited to discover more!

Today in assembly we celebrated the Scotland Trip in December 2022. Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend this morning! Alma (Y5) wrote a fantastic poem that really reflected our shared experience!

Attendance: The volume of children arriving late to school (after 8.50) is unacceptable.

If your child is late more than 3 times in a term you will be invited into school for a meeting with Miss Bristow to discuss how we can help you fulfil your parental responsibility to get your child to school on time. The same applies to late pick up at the end of the day.

Please work with us to ensure your child’s learning is maximized, Teachers start teaching at 8.35am, children who arrive first get an additional 15 minutes of school every day! Aim to be here for 8.30am, gates open at 8.35am. Thank you for your support.
