Learning Journey – Legacy Builders
A Snapshot of our Week…
Reception: We finished off our work around Halibut Jackson with the children using their empathy goggles to give advice to an imaginary character about how to build his confidence, by thinking about our own strengths, like Halibut had done at the end of the story.
Year 1: We have been using our collaboration tool to practice and perform our Winter Play. We did a dress rehearsal for Reception and Year 6 to make sure we were ready when the parents came to see us. In History, we continued to learn about the Notting Hill Carnival and we used our planning tool to design and make fantastic masks. In Literacy, we have used our empathy tool to write about a character’s feelings in different parts of the story.
Year 2: We’ve used our Whole Dulwich Wood Learning Toolkit this week as we collaborated, persevered and imagined ourselves in the North Pole for our wonderful performances of ‘Say Hello to Little Jo.’
Year 3: We’ve been using our planning and imagining tool to create a persuasive leaflet telling people to save Dulwich Woods. On Wednesday we went to a play at Brixton House, the reimagined tale of Cinderella, full of rap, poetry, vegetables, and vibes you can dance to! We all thought that it was fantastic!
Year 4: We’ve been using our imagining tool brilliantly to write our own version of the Iron Man. We’ve brought the creatures we created last week to life using all the literary devices we have studied this term. We have a year group full of budding authors who were also inspired by our theatre trip!
Year 5: We’ve been using our collaboration tool to work together to finish our play rehearsals. We have had technical and dress rehearsals all week. We had to use our perseverance tool to stay focused and in character in large ensemble scenes!
Year 6: We are working incredibly hard using our collaboration and making links tools, creating fact files about historical figures; showcasing our mathematical prowess; creating persuasive posters and preparing for our Christmas Performance next Tuesday!
Old Vic ‘Primary Play Your Part’ Project
Year 5 performed The Present to their parents, Old Vic Facilitators and the Playwright today! The Present is a brand new play by Laura Dockrill, commissioned by The Old Vic, London. Facilitators from the Old Vic theatre supported weekly drama sessions throughout this half term, leaving a legacy of inspired Year 5 children and a wonderful performance. The Old Vic facilitators were so impressed with our pupils that they invited Laura to attend the final performance, where the audience were taken on a truly magical journey through a fictional child’s dealings with her past, present and future toys.
Many thanks to Mr MacLellan and Mr Greenwood for inspiring and encouraging the children’s dramatic skills!
Friends Winter Fair
Thank you to everyone for your support, from Elkin’s vouchers to Santa and his Elves, to cakes givers, toy and book stall sellers, mulled wine makes, face painters, craft stall creators, much much more.
Thanks to the Staff and children for their fun games and activities, it was a great collaborative success, we hope you all loved it as much as we did!
A special mention goes to Georgina (Woody’s Mum Year 5) for coordinating the Fair and with the help of Beth (Eddie and Esme’s Mum) building the best ever Santa’s’ Grotto, to Miss Drummond and the Steel pan’s group and to Mr Chris and the Premises Team for working tirelessly to get everything ready.
Share and Care
Year 3 and 4 choir were part of the Old Vic’s Intergenerational Choir Project, we were partnered with a local dementia choir and performed with them at the Old Vic.
Alma: Year 3 and 4 choir were singing Christmas songs with people from a local dementia choir. I feel like this is an important thing to share as this is both caring and collaborative. As it’s nearly Christmas, I would say that this brings lots of different people together which normally brings a warming feeling inside people’s hearts.

Performances
Reception Christmas Performance – Mon 18th Dec 2.30pm and Tue 19th Dec 9:30am
- Tickets are available for collection from the School Office
KS2 Christmas Performance at St Stephen’s Church – Tue 19th Dec 6.30pm
- Please ensure you have signed the permission slip (which children brought home yesterday).
- Violins, Cello’s, Ukulele’s and African Drumming groups will all be performing and we have some fantastic singing to share with you.
- You don’t need a ticket.
- Don’t miss out on this very special Christmassy Event, we would like all children to attend and be seated by 6.15pm ready for a prompt 6.30pm start.
- Children need to wear their school uniform.
- The performance will finish at approximately 7pm – all children must be collected by an adult from the Church.
