Learning Journey – Sustain to Remain
A Snapshot of our Week…
Reception: We have continued our work around the elements of a story; we’ve been very excited to write and illustrate our own fantastic stories, using our imagining and perseverance tools to write the beginning, middle and end across several days and then design our own covers!
Year 1: We discovered that it was the Naughty Bus making all of the mess in our classroom last week. We kept him in a safe place but he managed to escape and cause havoc. In geography we have been exploring maps of our local area and we used this knowledge to create ‘Messy Maps’ of our classroom. Children were great at using their collaboration tool!
Year 2: We’ve loved using our asking questions tool as we began our science investigation into plants. We are really excited to observe our bean plants and see how they germinate and grow. We also loved making links to our learning journey by exploring how home-grown vegetables could help reduce our plastic consumption.
Year 3: We’ve been our asking questions tool to find out lots of interesting facts about volcanoes. We also did a really fun experiment, where we discovered which types of material reflect light best. Next week we will be making links by finding out about the importance of light in religion.
Year 4: We’ve been enjoying reading our new guided reading book, Letters from the Lighthouse. We have been using our empathy goggles to better understand the main character and asking questions to explore who they are and their emotions. We also started our new science topic this week, “Living things and their habitats” and were blown away by the knowledge the children already have about different species of animals.
Year 5: We have been using our whole toolkit to design and carry out an investigation into air resistance, making parachutes and seeing how we can affect how quickly things fall to the ground.
Year 6: We have been using our imagining tool in literacy, creating setting descriptions using figurative language. We enjoyed using personification the most, as well as coming up with well thought out similes. We have also been using our reasoning tool in maths, challenging ourselves with problem solving questions and discussion problems about decimals.

Monday’s Assembly: Noah (Y3), shared his book ‘The Fizzy Brain’ which he co-authored with his Mum. Not only was it informative and humorous, he inspired lots of children to start to believe and work towards writing their own books too. A huge thank you to Noah for keeping neuro-diversity on the agenda and reminding us that we all learn in different ways.
Share and Care

Drop off & Pick Up
Please don’t park in the car park at St Stephen’s Church – Father Bernhard has asked that we remind Parents that this is a private car park and can not be used as parking for the Dulwich Wood School Run.
Let’s work together to reduce school run traffic – Solve the School Run have all the information here!
Lost property has been re-located to the room by the School Office
We have accumulated huge piles of lost property in just 2 weeks, please collect lost items from the Parents room next to the Front Office as soon as possible. Next week we will be clearing the back log via the charity shop and the recycling centre.
Fruity Friday
Thank you to a wonderful group of Year 2 Parents who have offered to take on Fruity Friday. We hope that it will be up and running again very soon.
Kingswood Library

We will be taking all the children over to Kingswood Library over the coming weeks. If you want to get ahead, please take your child along and sign them up for the Winter Challenge. The library also has space for your child to do their homework and use the computers.
