Learning Journey – Sustain to Remain
A Snapshot of our Week…
Reception: After finding a mysterious paintbrush and a note in our classroom, we received a new book called ‘The Magic Paintbrush’, where the paintbrush makes things come alive. The main character, Shen, is told she can only use it to help the poor. We had a great discussion about what things we really need and what we just want. The kids then wrote about how they would use the paintbrush to help the poor, using their empathy goggles.
Year 1: We have been using our planning and making links tools to write a set of new adventures based on the story Naughty Bus. In Science we have been investigating the properties of materials and using scientific vocabulary to describe them.
Year 2: We have continued our amazing learning in Science as we have planted carrots, tomatoes and cress. We used our planning tool to plan for our investigation and are looking forward to seeing if our predictions are correct.

Year 3: We have been using our making links tool to apply words learnt in geography to our writing in literacy. We also had an extremely interesting RE day where we learnt why light is important to different religions.
Year 4: We have been using our reasoning tool in maths to deepen our understanding of multiplication and division. We have also been continuing to practise our times tables in preparation for the end of Year 4 multiplication check – more details on Tapestry. In literacy and in art, we have been using our imagining tool to create our very own mermaids!
Year 5: We have been nearing the end of our sci-fi literacy book: Robot Girl. We have been using our making links and asking questions tool to try and anticipate the many plot twists and revelations. We have also used our empathy tool to try and understand the impossible decision the protagonist has to make.
Year 6: We have been using our planning tool this week to write a sequel to The Promise. Our imagining tool has also been vital, as we created wonderfully descriptive locations and characters for our stories, as well as our perseverance tool for editing and improving. The stories are really wonderful and the children are very proud of their work!
PE Update

An amazingly talented group of Year 3 and 4 children represented Dulwich Wood at the Southwark Schools Indoor Athletics Competition this week. Not only did they come first but our girls team beat every record set over the last 17 years they also won every event!!
