Summer Term Learning Journey – The Future is Ours
Reception: Continuing with the ‘Great Fire of Tooley Street’ we looked at some ways in which life was different during Victorian times. We have been making links between some items from the past and their modern versions (e.g. irons, heaters, bath tubs, clothes, means of transportation). We have thoroughly enjoyed learning about how Victorian people heated their homes, travelled, did their laundry and a firm favourite: what they had to do take a bath (only once a week and sharing the same bath water between all the family members, eeek!).
Year 1 have used their imagining tool to write a letter to Iggy Peck making suggestions about what materials he could use for his building. The children made links with our science learning, thinking carefully about the different properties of the materials being used. We talked about the different features of a letter and remembered to use capital letters for proper nouns. Well done Year 1!
Year 2 really enjoyed using their collaboration, perseverance and imagining tools as we took part in a print making workshop led by A Level students from Kingsdale Foundation School. Even though it was tricky to carve the designs into the tiles, we persevered and ended up creating some amazing, printed tote bags based on our reading text ‘The Street Beneath My Feet’.

Year 3 have enjoyed using their imagining and making links tools this week to be super creative! We went on a walk in East Dulwich with the artist Amanda Greatorex to look at some of the street art and learnt about how they are interpretations of other artworks. We made sketches of the murals and then created our own versions back at school. Many thanks to Teddy’s Mum for helping us to arrange this brilliant experience!

Year 4 have used their planning tool brilliantly to research, plan and write amazingly informative reports about the Northern Lights. We have also really been enjoying our topic on sound, making our own pan pipes out of straws to explore pitch.
Year 5 have started reading the science fiction novel ‘Robot Girl’ by Malorie Blackman. We used our reasoning and making links tools to piece together clues about the characters’ true identities. We also used our imagining tool to predict what might happen in the story. We had a lot of competing theories!
Year 6 have had a great week! We have been publishing our writing in literacy, using our collaboration tool during our play rehearsals and using our empathy goggles during our transition sessions. On Wednesday, we took a trip to Crystal Palace park, where we used our collaboration tool when playing team games and some of us used our imagining and planning tools to draw the amazing aspects of nature we saw around us.
Midsummer Relays and Children’s Fun Mile

On Wed 18th Jun a few people from our school competed in a running competition in Dulwich Park. After registering and getting numbers, the runners made their way to the start line of the 1 mile run around the park. When the Dulwich Wooders finished they were very proud of each other!

Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)
In Summer 2 all the year groups will be delivering their RSE lesson sequence.
Please read the Relationships and Sex Education Policy so you know what your child will be learning about and how best to support them at home to talk about this learning.
The lessons are in line with national guidance and are all age-appropriate. If, after reading the policy, you have any questions please contact Miss Bristow.
