Learning Journey – Back to the Future
A Snapshot of our Week…

Reception: Building on our superhero theme, our attention has shifted towards real-life superheroes. We have discovered that all around us there are lots of superheroes like nurses, firefighters, bin collectors, carers, doctors, postal workers, vets, police officers, teachers, scientists etc. but also some unsung heroes like mums, dads and grandparents. The children have enjoyed thinking about what superpowers these superheroes have and how they use them to help us!

Year 5: We have learnt about the Ancient Greek Olympics – believed to have been held to honour their powerful god Zeus – and used our making links and reasoning tool to make predictions about our new Guided Reading book, Who Let the Gods Out?, in which Zeus is one of the characters.

  • So many children and adults dressed up as their favourite character and joined the WBD parade which ended with a dance party and free books and stickers for just about everyone!
  • The WBD parade which ended with a dance party and free books and stickers for just about everyone! Some KS2 children went up to the Nursery in the afternoon and shared their love of books and had fun building lovely relationships and shared memories with the Nursery children.
  • Reception and Y1 children now love Little Rabbit Foo Foo as much as Mrs Jary does!
  • Y1, Y2, Y5 & Y6 had the best time with Katherine who shared her passion and love of Anancy stories. Children and teachers got to dress up, sing and dance in her bespoke story telling sessions. Thank you so much to Katherine (who is the Grandma of Annalise Y4).
  • Y6 spent an hour with Nehemiah’s Dad Juelian, an actor and published author, he inspired many of the Y6 children to have an ideas notebook by the side of their bed and believe in their own hopes and dreams.
  • Published author and illustrator’s Gabby and Alex shared one of their books ‘If I had a Polar Bear’ with Y2 and Y3, all children learnt how to draw polar bears! Many Parents had pre-ordered the book so some children went home super happy from that session too.
  • Y1 also made a trip to Kingswood Library and Y4 had an Ancient Egyptians workshop in the British Museum!!
  • Also a big thank you to local artist and professional illustrator Magda Brol who launched World Book Week on Monday, teaching children from Y1-Y6 how to draw the perfect Ivy Newt and then spending the rest of the morning with Reception drawing crocodiles!
