An Overview of our year at Dulwich Wood!

Reception

As we reach the end of our wonderful year in Reception, we couldn’t be prouder of everything our amazing children have achieved. It has been a privilege to watch them grow from children who had only just left nursery into confident, independent and enthusiastic learners. They have all worked incredibly hard, showing wonderful perseverance, empathy and collaboration along the way, and have made fantastic progress across every area of learning. Most importantly, they have grown into kind, resilient and curious little people who are more than ready for the exciting adventures that Year 1 will bring. We know they will all continue to shine, and we wish them every happiness and success in the next chapter of their learning journey.

Year 1

On Tuesday morning, the children had a lovely time meeting their new teachers and classmates. They returned to their classrooms full of smiles, excitement and eager chatter about the year ahead. Seeing their enthusiasm and positivity has been a wonderful reminder of just how ready they are to embrace their next adventure. It has been a joy to watch them flourish throughout the year and we are incredibly proud of the confidence, independence and resilience they have developed. Now they are all using the whole Dulwich Wood Learning Toolkit! WOW!

Year 2

Y2 have had a fantastic year! They have made links and asked questions about the Great Fire of London, Mary Seacole, Water Protectors and more! They have persevered in maths making so much progress with multiplication and division, learning to tell the time and fractions, amongst other mathematical topics. We are so proud of all the children in Year 2 for using their empathy goggles every day and learning to regulate their emotions! Some memorable moments include: going to the Science Museum to explore space and materials, holding the fluffy chicks and some outdoor learning during the heat wave. Good luck next year everyone!

Year 3

What an amazing year it has been for Beech and Cedar classes! We have had lots of fun this year, making great use of our perseverance tool to overcome different challenges and make excellent progress. We have been on so many wonderful trips, including the Wetland Centre, Science Museum and the Dulwich Festival Art Walk, which have been such a great way of making links with our learning in class. We have used our imagining tool to explore some brilliant texts, including ‘Our Tower’, ‘Sparky’ and ‘Julius Caesar’, which has led to some wonderful writing. Science has been full of asking important questions and using our planning tools to investigate the world around us. We have learnt so much and really grown over the year, but we can’t end without mentioning how well we used our collaboration tool to learn, rehearse and perform our wonderful play ‘The Sweet Life!’ – it was a fabulous end to a super year!

Year 4

What a fantastic year! The children enjoyed investigating how to soundproof boxes in Science, testing different materials to discover which worked best at reducing sound. If only we had been testing heatproofing instead, it certainly would have come in handy during this week’s hot weather! In English, they explored some of the world’s most incredible natural wonders, including the Northern Lights and the Grand Canyon, using their research to create engaging and informative pieces of writing. We are so proud of everything they have achieved this year and wish them all the very best as they move into Year 5!

Year 5

What a fantastic year it has been for Y5! In Literacy, we have used our planning and imagining tools to write in a range of genres, including playscripts, non-chronological reports, poetry, setting descriptions, newspaper articles, and speeches inspired by the texts we have studied. In Science, we have applied our asking questions, reasoning and planning tools to investigations such as separating mixtures, as well as enjoying practical experiences including pond dipping and our visit to the Science Museum. In Computing, we demonstrated excellent collaboration while creating PowerPoints and using Movie Maker. We used our making links tool to connect our learning about Scandinavia and Greece in Geography with our studies of the Vikings and Ancient Greece in History. Throughout the year, the children have shown outstanding empathy and perseverance, and we are incredibly proud of all they have achieved as they prepare for Y6!

Year 6

So, this is it, our last Dulwich Wood Newsletter! We are so proud of every single child in Y6 for their tremendous efforts this year. Through their epic journey to Scotland and their seemingly endless SATs revision, to their fabulous performance in their school play, Y6 have put their perseverance, collaboration and imagining tools into overdrive. We now look forward to our final week in school, soaking it all in, before a well-deserved break, and the start of a bright new chapter in secondary school.

Please make sure that children have a hat and water bottle with them every day.

CHILDREN WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO PLAY ON THE PLAYGROUND IN DIRECT SUNLIGHT IF THEY ARE WEARING A HAT UNTIL THE END OF TERM! IF THEY DO NOT HAVE A HAT THEY WILL NEED TO REMAIN IN THE SHADE.
