Learning Journey: Planet Protectors
Our learning at Dulwich Wood this week:
Reception
As our year in Reception draws to a close, we’ve been feeling excited about the adventures that await us in Y1! This week, we’ve reflected on all the wonderful things we’ve learnt over the past year, revisiting our key texts and remembering some of the special moments we’ve shared together. We celebrated the incredible progress the children have made in their reading, writing and maths, talking about skills that once felt tricky but now come with confidence. We also celebrated personal milestones, from learning to ride a bike or swim to conquering the monkey bars! Finally, we reflected on how our Whole Dulwich Wood Learning Toolkit has helped us become independent, resilient learners who are ready for the exciting next step in their learning journey.
Year 1
Y1 this week learned the ordinal numbers and made links when they used them during Sports day competitions. In the second half of the week, we started a new topic about ‘money’ and recognising coins and the children were amazing using the collaboration and reasoning tools to make 30 pence in different ways, using different coins.
Year 2
Y2 were fantastic at demonstrating their collaboration and perseverance skills during Sports Day. They worked brilliantly as a team, encouraging one another and giving every race their very best effort. It was wonderful to see them showing resilience, never giving up, and celebrating each other’s achievements. In the classroom, the children have continued to show great curiosity as we explore our topic on the oceans. They have been asking thoughtful questions and discovering more about the amazing world beneath the sea, showing a real enthusiasm for learning.
Year 3
Y3 performed their incredible play to their families and the whole school. They used their perseverance tool to push their nerves down and they were all absolutely amazing, speaking clearly and confidently. They were also such professionals when dealing with a slight technical error and showed such maturity. We have loved doing this show with them and we were so proud of every single one of them! Unfortunately, we were too busy to take photos on the day. If any parents took any photos that they’d be happy to share with us, please do!!
Year 4
Y4 had a super trip across London, answering enquiry questions about how the River Thames is used and visiting central London as well as the Thames Barrier. We loved travelling on the DLR, asking questions and collaborating with each other!
Year 5
This week, Y5 showed fantastic collaboration, perseverance and empathy during Sports Day, encouraging one another and celebrating each other’s achievements with positivity and enthusiasm. In science, we compared the gestation periods of different mammals, while in maths, we have been using our reasoning and perseverance tools to convert between different units of measure.
Year 6
Y6 kicked off the week with an exciting trip to Crystal Palace Park, where we enjoyed team-building games, practised our collaboration tool and, for some, had the opportunity to visit the farm. Back at school, we have been busy preparing for our end-of-year production, which we are very excited to perform next week. A special shout out to Year 3, whose play was absolutely amazing and inspired us all with their fantastic performance!
