Spring Term Learning Journey – All the World’s a Stage
Welcome Back! We have had a brilliant start to 2025. Find out what we have been learning:
Reception: This week we have been reading a selection of classic fairy tales and using them to learn about the core elements of a story: characters, setting, problem and solution, and then placing them on a simple story map with a beginning, middle and ending. The children have been using their making links tool to identify these elements in a range of stories and lots of them had a great go at creating their own story maps, either with well-known stories or with stories of their own!
Year 1 have had a fantastic first week back! It has been lovely to hear all about the children’s holiday adventures and they have really enjoyed sharing these with the class. The children have been great at using their collaboration and planning tools to build structures and make repeating patterns during our maths lessons and we are all excited about our new learning journey ‘All the World’s a Stage’.
Year 2 have really enjoyed using our asking questions tool to find out all about William Shakespeare as part of our new learning journey – ‘All the World’s a Stage!’ We have been learning about biographies and have written an amazing one about Shakespeare. We have used sentence starters and past tense verbs to make sure our writing is interesting and accurate.
Year 3 have made a great start to 2025, using our imagining tool to create a soundscape poem all about the world around us. We have made the most of our managing distractions tool to really focus on the different sounds we can hear in school, at the park and on the street.
Year 4 have had a great start to the new term and got stuck into our new learning journey, ‘All the World’s a Stage’. We’ve started reading Macbeth and had great fun acting out the first scene of the witches on the heath. We have also started our new science topic on electricity, discussing what it is and how it is used.
Year 5 have been using their planning and collaboration tools to investigate the effects of air resistance. We made parachutes with different surface areas and controlled the other variables. We found that the larger the surface area, the longer the parachute took to fall. We have also started our new text in Literacy, ‘The Lizzie and Belle Mysteries’, and have been using our imagining tool to create a theatre advertisement!
Year 6 have started the New Year with a tragedy linked to our new Learning Journey ‘All the World’s a Stage’. In the late afternoon, Year 6 discovered a terrible crime that happened in the playground. We sent our best detectives, who used their asking questions tool, to collect the evidence and write up a police report for Miss Rowe. All reports state that it is linked to the Montague and Capulet families. We will let you know more as we continue our investigations.
