Learning Journey – World of Culture

Thank you to all the families who came to our Open Afternoon yesterday, it was so lovely to see how proud the children are of their school!

Reminders:

  • Please make sure that your child doesn’t ride their bike or scooter on the playground; we do remind them daily. Unfortunately a child was hurt yesterday in a scooter incident.
  • You will be able to access home learning on Tapestry next Friday. You can continue to use TTRS, Numbots and Accelerated Reader.
  • A number of children are still wearing jewellery to school, please check the school uniform policy for the expectations. school uniform policy
  • Donations for the Reception Class – if you have any spare toy cars, trucks or balance bikes in good condition please bring them in.
  • Please ensure your child’s name is on their fleece, jumper and coat. We are unable to store lost property; every Friday the lost and found trolley will be on the lower playground. Any unclaimed items will be given to the Friends for second-hand uniform.
A Snapshot of our Week…

Year 1: we have been learning all the routines and having lots of fun exploring the resources available both inside the classroom and in the outside area. All the adults are really impressed with how well the children have settled already!

Year 2: we have been using our imagining tool brilliantly this week when we opened a mysterious suitcase! We loved looking at the objects, asking questions and making predictions about our new story!

Year 3: we’ve had a brilliant start to the year! We had a special delivery on Monday from the ‘Lazy Pet Co.’ that arrived in a box with lots of holes in it. We used our asking questions tool to find out what was inside our box, and then opened it to discover a pet sloth called Sparky, which we were all very excited about!

Year 4 have had a fantastic start to their new literacy book, “Tar Beach” by Faith Finggold. They used their asking questions, reasoning and imagining tools to make insightful inferences about the setting, themes and characters.

Year 5: we have been using our making links and collaboration tools to begin exploring what we really mean by ‘culture’, and have started to think about group culture through our PSHE and our early study of The Island, by Armin Greder.

Year 6 have come back raring to go this year! An early highlight has been the children demonstrating their collaborative skills in our netball games during PE. Some amazing team work on display!

School Council

We are so proud of all the Year 6 Children who stood in front of their peers and delivered their outstanding speeches last week. The houses voted for these children to represent them. We will also have some ambassadors who will work alongside the School Council and Mrs Jary on all the exciting projects this year!
