Spring Term Learning Journey – All the World’s a Stage
Reception: After creating our story maps for classic fairy tales last week, we have been using our imagining tool to create a class story. We then to came up with our own stories, making sure we introduced the characters and setting at the beginning, bumped into a problem in the middle and a found a solution at the end. Some of us chose to do this as a book and others did it as a story map. We are very proud of our creative little authors and illustrators!
Year 1: this week a magic bed arrived in our classroom! We used our asking questions tool to try and find out more about how and why it had arrived at Dulwich Wood. The children thought about a dream they have had and used their imagining tool to think about what they could see, hear and smell to make their writing even more exciting for the reader.
Year 2 used their making links and reasoning tools to make predictions in Science. We used our collaboration tool to plant our beans in a bag and are keeping our fingers crossed that they will germinate so that we can see if our predictions about the life cycle of a plant are correct!
Year 3 have been using their imagining tool to write some incredible setting descriptions full of beautiful vocabulary. We also used our reasoning tool in science to discover which types of material were more reflective.
Year 4 We started our history topic on the Anglo-Saxons, making links with other learning to place them on a timeline and think about why people try to ‘invade’ other places. We also used our asking questions and collaboration tools to understand the importance of food and fasting in different religions.
Year 5 have continued their science learning using their reasoning tool to predict which shapes would sink fastest in water – it wasn’t the cube! We used our making links tool to think about the similarities between air resistance and water resistance. In Literacy, we made some exciting links between our historical fiction novel and what we had learnt in guided reading last term in Black and British.
Year 6 have uncovered more information regarding the terrible crime discovered last week. Using our making links and reasoning tools, we were able to identify the two victims as Romeo and Juliet. We are enjoying reading the famous Shakespearian play, learning more about the long-standing feud between the Montague and Capulet families, writing diary entries in role as the main characters. In maths we have conquered our Fractions, Decimals and Percentages unit, ready to move on to more challenging learning.
