Learning Journey: Around the World in Half a Term
Our Learning this week:
Reception
After finding some mysterious fairy lights in our classrooms, we began reading the story ’Ning and the Night Spirits’ about a little boy who is very shy and afraid of making friends, until he meets the Night Spirits of the forest, who are actually really friendly and not scary at all (contrary to what the grown-ups in his village think)! We have been using our empathy goggles to offer Ning advice on how to make friends with the children around him.
Year 1
We received a letter from a grown up character called Astrid who followed her dreams and became an astronaut just like her mama. Using our asking questions tool we found out lots of fun space facts. Did you know that the first animal to go into orbit was Laika the dog, in 1957? Astrid asked us to use our planning and making links tools to create a Space Travel Fact File to help any aspiring astronauts.
Year 2
We have really been enjoying our book, ‘Ocean Meets Sky’ by the Fan Brothers. We have used our imagining tool to design our own boats, just like Finn and have written some very persuasive adverts to showcase our amazing vessels using prepositions and the suffix ‘-est’.
Year 3
We have enjoyed moving on to a new topic in maths this week, using our making links tool to understand how two numbers can be multiplied in either direction. 3A have also been using our perseverance tool to continue making great progress in our swimming lessons.
Year 4
Year 4 have had a very busy week indeed! We had a fabulous trip to the Black Cultural Archives in Brixton, where used our asking questions and making links tools to investigate historical objects and documents. We also used our imagining and managing distractions tools for a wonderful trip to the cinema!
Year 5
We have been using our imagining and planning tools to begin writing a newspaper report based on our literacy text, ‘High Rise Mystery’. We’ve used formal language to report facts and have creatively thought of quotes from the police and the residents of the estate.
Year 6
We have finished reading ‘Windrush Child’, discovering the reality behind this story which still affects many people to this day. We have begun writing research projects on the amazing contributions the Windrush Generation have made to Britain. We have also conquered our fractions unit in maths and are now moving on to decimals!
