Learning Journey: Around the World in Half a Term
Our Learning this week:
Reception
We have completed our work around the story ‘Look Up!’ The children have thoroughly enjoyed learning lots of facts about shooting stars and meteor showers. We also used our empathy goggles to think about how some of the characters change throughout the story as they stop looking down at their phones and finally look up to start paying attention to the people and things around them.
Year 1
In maths we’ve be learning about addition fact families. We’ve used our making links tool and drawn on our prior knowledge of part-whole model and stem sentences, “3 is a part and 4 is a part and the whole is 7” to help us learn and use the bar model. The children have understood in each model they need to identify and add the two parts to make the whole and find the total.

Year 2
This week we had a fantastic time using our reasoning and making links tools in science as we continued our learning on materials. This time, we investigated whether we could change the shape of different materials by applying a force. We discussed why we couldn’t squash or twist the tin can but we could change the play dough.
Year 3
We have been using our empathy tool to write letters of advice to a lonely man who lives in the Tin Forest. We have also started learning about forces and have experimented with household items to see whether they use a push, pull or both in order to move!
Year 4
We used our whole toolkits to write motivational speeches in role as Harvey Milk, the American politician and equal rights campaigner.
Year 5
We have been using our making links tool this week to start our new learning journey ‘Around the world in half a term.’ Having learnt about Scandinavia, we are now starting to think about another part of Europe and specifically the country of Greece. We used atlases to explore how many borders different countries have and also searched for countries that were landlocked. We will be comparing and contrasting the culture and physical geography of Scandinavia and Greece over the next few weeks.
Year 6
We have been using our reasoning and collaboration tools during maths, as we tackled multiplying and dividing fractions. We have also been using our empathy goggles during literacy, delving deeper into the life of Leonard as he adjusts to life in England.
