Learning Journey – Represent Us
A Snapshot of our Week…
Reception: on Tuesday we discovered a mysterious gift box with some holes on it. Next to it, we found a story called ‘Weirdo’ about a guinea pig who is a present for a little girl. Other pets live in the house and, as they’ve never seen a creature like her before, they start to wonder about what she could be… but they’re not being very kind and they make her feel a bit uncomfortable. The children were fabulous at using their empathy goggles and gave some great advice to the pets on how to make ‘The Surprise’ feel welcome.
Year 1: we have used our empathy and asking questions tool to find out more about Rosa Parks and her fight for equality and civil rights. We were very disappointed to learn about what happened to her. In Literacy we started the week by describing a variety of eggs which later we found out were part of the story ‘The Odd Egg’. We can’t wait to start reading it!

Year 2 had an amazing trip to the Tower of London last week, they used their whole Dulwich Wood Learning Toolkit! Despite the wet weather, they loved learning about the tower and made lots of links to all of their learning this year! They even got to see the Crown Jewels which was so interesting and exciting!
Year 3 have learnt about friction for our topic on forces. We went into the playground and experimented with how far toy cars could move on different surfaces! We are also continuing with fractions, making our own fraction walls to help identify equivalent fractions!
Year 4 made their own quiz board in science using electrical circuits. They were given a pack of equipment and a few clues and using their reasoning tool, they worked out how to do it! We have also been using our imagining tool in literacy whilst creating dramatic sentences using personification.
Year 5 have been using our making links tool across science, maths, literacy and even music to explore space. We have learnt about how the approximately spherical Earth rotates on its axis, how humans are exploring space, to singing a song about Mars, and much more!
Year 6 have continued to work incredibly hard, identifying those last remaining skills and concepts that need a little bit more attention before our SATs tests next week. We have used our planning and collaboration tools to help secure our understanding and have made excellent use of our empathy tool to support each other.
Share & Care

Evie Remy in 1A would like to share her hopes for a better world, where we all show more kindness, friendship and caring towards our earth! Thank you Evie for this lovely picture and important words. You can hear Evie here:

Food tasting with Chartwells: The School Council were invited by Shirley, Chartwells Area Manager for Southwark, to test some of the new dishes for the Autumn menu. Their feed back was very constructive, she compared them to the judges in the MasterChef kitchen. Everyone had a lot of fun!

Maypole dancing with Donna Marie – Saturday 18th May 12pm and 2pm
The children remembered with fondness when they danced around the maypole with Donna Marie. Although she isn’t coming to school this year she will be at the Love West Dulwich Spring Festival and would love the Dulwich Wood children to meet her there!
