Learning Journey – World of Culture

HARVEST FESTIVAL
Thank you to everyone who came along to our Harvest Festival this morning, it was so lovely to welcome our whole community into the Church and celebrate Harvest Around the World. The School Council collected £160 for the ‘Choose Love’ charity and Father Bernhard was so thankful for all the Harvest Gifts which will go to refugee and asylum seekers in the area.
A Snapshot of our Week…
Reception: we have been reading ‘The Colour Monster’ which has sparked some lovely class discussions about all the different emotions we can experience, especially when we are in school. The children have been fantastic at identifying how they feel in a range of situations and how we can make ourselves and others feel better when we need it, making great use therefore of their Empathy tool!!
Year 1 have started our new literacy book ‘Beegu’, which is all about a lost alien and have been using our Empathy tool to understand how she might be feeling. We decided to create some posters to let everyone know what she looks like. The children were amazing at using adjectives to describe her! Please let Year 1 know if you spot her!
Year 2 have loved building a boat to help us tell our wonderful class story, ‘When Ocean Meets Sky.’ We have used our Imagining tool to be the Captains of our boats and have written a ‘Captain’s Log’ about our adventure through magical lands!
Year 3 have been using our Imagining tool to explore conversations an owner could have with their pet sloth. We have also explored the functions of a plant stem by using food dye to colour flowers. We are now waiting patiently for the flowers to turn blue!
Year 4 have been using our Reasoning tool to understand place value and how to partition numbers up to 10,000 in lots of different ways. Whilst in geography we have been using our asking questions tool to explore the human and physical features of the Caribbean.
Year 5 have used their Empathy goggles and Reasoning tool in PSHE to think about how to be assertive rather than passive or aggressive, then used the Making Links tool to help us define the passive and active voices in Literacy.
Year 6 used their Imagining tool to travel back in time to become guards in an Ancient Benin village. They used their writing skills to write a report to the Chief describing the events that had taken place. Ask them to go into role and tell you what they saw!
