Learning Journey: Myths, Monarchs & Mayhem
Our learning at Dulwich Wood this week:
Reception
What a busy half term this has been in Reception! We have made fantastic use of our making links tool, beginning by exploring what plants need to grow before moving on to hands-on investigations into how we can grow healthy and strong ourselves. We have also continued to show perseverance in phonics as we become increasingly confident at reading and writing longer words with adjacent consonants, and in maths as we explored teen numbers and developed our addition and subtraction skills. We are all very proud of how much we have achieved this half term and are now ready for a well-deserved break before an exciting final term ahead!
Year 1
We are so impressed with the amazing progress that the Y1 children have made this term. They have used their perseverance and imagining tools to write letters of apology in the character of ‘Cave Baby’. It is so fantastic how independent they are all becoming at writing. We finished this term with a well-deserved trip to Crystal Palace Park. Thanks again for our lovely volunteer parents for their time and support.
Year 2
Y2 have worked so hard this half term investigating living things and their habitats in science, using their reasoning and perseverance tools in maths to understand different units of measurement and using their imagining tool to write incredible fact files in literacy. They have been using their empathy goggles every day to be kind and practise their emotional regulation. Well done Y2!
Year 3
Y3 have really used their imagining tools this term, to go back in time and try to understand what life would have been like for Mary Anning – the legendary fossil hunter. We have really enjoyed learning all about her and her incredible discoveries, and we ended the term with fantastic stories about the day that changed her life forever… We have also used our planning tools to start to get ready for our play ‘The Sweet Life’. We will be working really hard on it next term and hope you can all come to watch!
Year 4
Y4 have had an awesome half-term, especially using our reasoning tool across many practical Science lessons to explore the properties of materials, and asking questions as we undertook an in-depth study of Ancient Egypt. For our next literacy book, we have already introduced the children to the unfathomably long period of time before there were any humans or even life on planet Earth at all, using our imagining tool to ask huge questions about the world and how it came to be. We can’t wait to start reading ‘The Ever-Changing Earth!’
Year 5
This half term, Y5 have enjoyed using our empathy, imagining and planning tools in literacy to explore ‘The Island’ and ‘The Lost Thing’, developing thoughtful ideas about belonging and perspective. In science and history, we have applied our making links, reasoning and asking questions tools through a range of practical learning experiences such as flower dissection, exploring Norse mythology and the nine realms, and pond dipping, showing curiosity and enthusiasm throughout.
Year 6
Y6 have had a fantastic half term, showing outstanding resilience and commitment in all areas of their learning. They have consistently used their perseverance, making links and managing distractions tools to deepen their understanding and take pride in their work. We are incredibly proud of their efforts and are excited for next half term, where we will enjoy upcoming trips and begin preparing for a smooth and successful transition to secondary school.
Sporting News!

There is this amazing event called ‘The Triathlon’, hundreds of people enter to swim, cycle and run. This triathlon was hosted in the famous Crystal Palace Park. There were groups of ages starting with Tristar (50m swim, 1km ride & 400m run) the Tristar1 (150m swim, 4km ride & 1.2km run) and Tristar 2 (150m swim, 6km ride & 1.8km run).
In between the events we did transitions, there are rules that say you can’t touch your bike until you have the right gear on. This tough event helps people to stay fit and healthy and after you pass the finish line you get a medal, then you can say you are a triathlete! By Archie & George (Year 5)
Well done to all the children from Dulwich Wood that participated! We are very proud of you!
Culture Day at Dulwich Wood

We had a fantastic day yesterday celebrating the diverse cultures around our school. It was incredible to see how proudly every child shared their culture with us as we paraded around in the morning. In classes, children and adults shared interesting facts about their culture, and some children were also able to try some traditional foods from different cultures around the world!

Transition Plan for September
End of Year Reports
Your child’s end of year report will be sent home on Friday 3rd July. Alongside their report will be information on their class and teacher for next year. We know this can be a worrying experience for some children (and parents), social stories will be available to support your child through this. Each class will be thoughtfully split by the current teachers and to ensure all children are in an engaging and welcoming environment. Please see the rationale for classes mixes here.
Transition Meetings
As the transition to certain year groups means the classroom and timetable look different, we will be holding online transition meetings for all parents of children entering the below year groups next school year. More details will be shared closer to the meetings.
