Our week at Dulwich Wood:
Eid Celebration at Dulwich Wood

On Monday, Derin (Y5) presented an amazing Eid Assembly giving us lots of great information about how she celebrates Eid. Other children shared what they do during the festival and the fantastic time they have with their family and friends. Here is a picture of them all and some of them are wearing their special clothes. They look wonderful! We are really looking forward to hearing all about their celebrations. Thank you all and especially Derin!
Computing Club News!
Computing Club this term has been out of this world! The children worked in groups on an exciting project, Astro Pi: Mission Zero, creating colourful images and animations using Python. Their code was sent to the International Space Station (ISS), where astronauts could see their work in action. With the help of our parent volunteer, Stu, all the groups successfully shared their amazing creations with space—what an incredible achievement!
Learning Journey: Digital Explorers
Reception
Building on our exploration of the superhero theme, this week we used our making links tool to turn our focus to real-life heroes. We discovered that superheroes are all around us—nurses, firefighters, refuse collectors, carers, doctors, postal workers, vets, police officers, teachers, and scientists. We also celebrated the unsung heroes in our lives, such as mums, dads, and grandparents. The children thoroughly enjoyed discussing the “superpowers” these everyday heroes possess and how they use them to help others and make a difference in our world!
Year 1
This week Y1 have had great fun using their imagining tool, acting out different scenes from ‘The Tempest’ to help the children better understand the story and characters. The children were great at using their empathy goggles to get into role, thinking about how the characters might act or what they might say. It was so much fun! Later children put their acting skills into practice during choosing time as well and made an acting stage on the playground.
Year 2
Y2 have had a brilliant week making links and collaborating. They searched for microhabitats as part of their ‘Scientific Enquiry’ topic and began their multiplication and division topic. Keep up the amazing effort!
Year 3
The highlight of the week in Y3 has been our amazing outdoor learning experience at the Wetland Centre. We used our imagining and collaboration tools to explore and appreciate the natural world and take a few small steps to becoming Guardians of the Wild. We were so lucky to have a beautiful sunny day and saw lots of different animals and plants and took part in some fun nature activities.
Year 4
Y4 have had a fantastic week full of curiosity and creativity! They have begun their new History topic on the Ancient Egyptians, showing great enthusiasm as they began to explore fascinating civilisation and even created their own miniature pyramids! In literacy they made excellent use of their imagining tool, coming up with some wonderfully inventive and imaginative ideas about how hoovers might work. Some of Y4 represented the school at an athletics competition, showing great perseverance, empathy and collaboration. Meanwhile, the rest of the class enjoyed an exciting and inspiring author visit!
Year 5
Y5 have had an amazing week full of focus and brilliant learning! We began by consolidating our maths topic on fractions, decimals, and percentages before diving into our fascinating new book, ‘Curiosity’. To bring the story to life, we immersed ourselves in space using our imagining tool, listened to galactically inspired music, and used our asking questions tool to wonder about the possibilities of life beyond Earth. We even explored the Mars Rover robot and its incredible discoveries, inspiring us to think about what robots might uncover on other planets. The children’s curiosity and creativity truly shone this week!
Year 6
Year 6 have used their Whole Learning Tool Kit and worked really hard this week to complete another round of practice SATs papers. We are so proud of all of their hard work, and the progress they have made is outstanding! We have rounded the week off today with an art session celebrating the coming of Spring.

Photography Project

I’m Megan – a school mum and professional photographer – and I’m doing a personal project about the School mums at Dulwich Wood. For this project, I’d like to photograph mums wearing whatever they normally wear during the day—whether they work or are stay-at-home mums—against a traditional school portrait backdrop set up in the primary school gym (see photo attached!). Our community and shared experience feels important to celebrate. All mums are invited to take part. I’ll be set up in the Lower Hall on Friday mornings, and another mum, Leonora, will ask a few short questions while I take the photographs. Each session will take about 30 minutes and I’ll send you a retouched image afterwards. While this is currently a personal project, I would love for it to be published or exhibited in the future. If you’d like to take part please leave your name, number and/ or email address at reception and I’ll get you booked in.
