Learning Journey: Global Identities
Our week at Dulwich Wood:
Reception
After creating our story maps for classic fairy tales last week, we’ve been using our imagining and making links tools to create a class story and then develop our own individual stories. We made sure to introduce the characters and setting at the beginning, include a problem in the middle, and find a solution at the end. Some children chose to write their stories as a book, while others created story maps. We are very proud of our creative young authors and illustrators!
Year 1
Y1 loved using the laptops during their Computing lesson this week. The children were learning about what technology is and identifying technology used both at school and at home, as well as practising how to use basic controls such as the trackpad and keyboard. They were fantastic at using their collaboration tool by taking turns and working together and they also showed great perseverance, continuing to try their best even when they found the work challenging. Well done, Year 1, we can’t wait to build on these skills next week!
Year 2
Y2 were curious map explorers, using map keys to spot important landmarks in our local area. They worked collaboratively and used compass directions to describe where places were around Dulwich Wood Primary and the Sydenham Hill area. We even noticed famous London landmarks!
Year 3
Y3 have been using their reasoning tool to research and discover facts about Europe. We worked really hard at locating and naming as many European countries as possible. Cedar class also used their perseverance tool at their first swimming lesson at Dulwich College whilst Beech class made beautiful calendars in art.
Year 4
The Y4 classes took part in engaging workshops at the Black Cultural Archives in Brixton, where we used our making links tool to reactivate our prior learning about the Windrush Generation. The children really enjoyed handling mid-20th century artefacts and imagining what life was like for the pioneers who made Britain their home.
Year 5
In Y5, we have been using our persevering tool to tackle long multiplication. In literacy, we’ve continued to explore The Tempest, using imagining, empathy, and collaboration to get into role, and in guided reading, we’ve been making links to the text to support our predictions.
Year 6
Y6 have been incredibly focused this week, using their perseverance tool during maths lessons, as we work our way through our converting units topic. In Literacy, we have been using our planning tool to write formal letters of advice to the ‘Duke of Northumberland’, explaining our concerns about the new gardener – Mr Amicus.

British Science Week 2026 at Dulwich Wood
Can you volunteer for British Science Week 2026?
Do you use science in your job? Can you help inspire our children about where science can take them in the future?
British Science Week is taking place between the 6-15th March and this year’s theme is ‘Curiosity: What is your Question?’. We are looking for volunteers to bring real-life examples of STEM careers into school and answer the children’s questions about what they do at work.
‘Science’ is being treated in the broadest sense here, so we aren’t expecting you to be a scientist who works in a lab and wears a white coat. In fact, we want to help break stereotypes and offer the children an insight into how science is used in a huge variety of careers and in lots of different ways.
Are you a chef, a vet, a nurse, a pharmacist, a dentist? Do you use computers or technology? Does your job involve engineering? Do you work with nature? Any job that has a connection to science, STEM or makes use of scientific skills counts.
If you can spare a couple of hours during the week of 9th March, or would like to find out more, please get in touch with Mr Barton: tbarton@dulwichwood.com
