Wrapping up our half term of learning at Dulwich Wood:

We have had a brilliant half term at Dulwich Wood! Some of the highlights include the Scotland Residential Trip and the Christmas performances – Reception Nativity, KS1 Nativity, KS2 Performance at St Stephen’s Church and our showcase of talent at the Dulwich Wood Talent Show. Thank you to all the children for your never ending energy and enthusiasm, collaborative spirit and giving your best in everything that you do.

Our half term at Dulwich Wood:
Reception
We are so proud of our amazing Reception children and all they have achieved this half term. They showed brilliant perseverance in phonics, completing Phase 2 with lots of enthusiasm and growing confidence. In maths, the children enjoyed exploring numbers 0–5 and discovering the properties of different 2D shapes. In literacy, they used lots of imagining and put on their empathy goggles during class discussions about the stories we explored. They were also fantastic at exploring the world around them, using our making links tool to spot and talk about seasonal changes. Well done to all of our Reception children. We can’t wait to see what they continue to achieve next half term!
Year 1
What a fantastic half term we’ve had in Year 1! We have loved our learning journey ‘Voices from the Past’, focusing on Claudia Jones and her positive impact on the world. In our R.E. and Literacy lessons the children were fantastic at using their empathy and making links tools to think about the special gift Sophia was given and a special gift that Christians might receive at Christmas. We loved finishing off the term with our spectacular performance of ‘Whoopsie Daisy Angel’ where we collaborated and persevered to make the show a success! We are so proud of you!
Year 2
This half term, our children have shown great curiosity and imagination as they explored materials and investigated elements during our visit to Dulwich Picture Gallery. Through role play and drama, they developed empathy by stepping into the lives of people from the past. We were especially proud of how the children used their empathy goggles to welcome new friends, showing kindness, respect and a strong sense of inclusion within our Dulwich Wood community. They showed amazing perseverance by working hard to remember their lines, songs and actions and their imagination truly shone as they brought the nativity story to life with confidence, expression and joy.
Year 3
Year 3 have had a brilliant half term, making great use of their whole Dulwich Wood Learning Toolkits. A few highlights include: using our collaboration tools on our mapping workshop in Dulwich Woods; persevering with our calculation and times tables knowledge in Maths (and making great progress!); using our planning tools to draft and publish fact-filled leaflets all about protecting our local woodland in Literacy and asking questions to learn all about life during the Roman Empire in History.
Year 4
Year 4 have had an exciting and creative half term. They have been using their empathy goggles while learning about the Windrush generation, helping them to develop a deeper understanding of people’s experiences and perspectives. The children also used their planning tool to create some incredibly inspiring speeches, before putting their imagination to work by writing wonderful festive poetry. We have been so impressed with their thoughtfulness, creativity and enthusiasm for learning.
Year 5
Year 5 have had a great half term using all of our learning tools. We have used our making links tool when reading Freedom Bird, Long Walk to Freedom and Black and British. Using our perseverance tool, we have grown in confidence using computers to create PowerPoints and learn touch typing. We have developed our ability to reason and ask questions through discussing and debating interesting and complex ideas in Humanities and RE. In Literacy, we have been really creative using our imagining tool to write lots of different texts including some fantastic poems which we even performed!
Year 6
Year 6 have had a fantastic half term! They have conquered fractions in maths, written a variety of different texts, read four books and learnt about the Mayans in History. They have all been mastering their use of their managing distractions, making links and perseverance tools throughout the term in all aspects of their learning. And to top it off, they had a spectacular week in Scotland on their residential where they all used their collaboration tool. We’re all looking forward to the New Year!

Running Club:
Thank you to all of the staff, parents and of course children who have enthusiastically attended running club every Wednesday morning this term. Mr Sean and Ms Sinead put on a Christmas hunt as a challenge for our last week. The children needed to use their collaboration and reasoning tools to solve the clues and navigate our run around the local area.
