Autumn Term Learning Journey – Your Mind Matters

Harvest Festival at St Stephen’s Church
Thank you for all the generous donations to the Pecan Food Bank and Choose Love. The children’s performance was inspiring as always!
Reception: At the start of the week, we made a fascinating discovery: some mysterious footprints, a clump of fur, and a curious sack! Inside the sack we found, among other treasures, the story ‘Where the Wild Things Are’. This has inspired our role play area to transform into a magical woodland, where the children have been using their imagining tool to become ‘Wild Things’ themselves, and even try out being king or queen of them all, just like Max!
Year 1 have been exploring the human body in science. We identified and labelled different body parts and used our collaboration tool to investigate how and when we use our five senses. We then made links between the body parts of Beegu, the friendly alien, and us and we also realised that we use many senses throughout the day such as at lunch time.
Year 2 have been honing their place value skills in maths this week by exploring, comparing and ordering numbers up to 100. They have also been generating interesting adjectives for their setting descriptions in literacy through immersion and acting. What amazing ideas and imaginations Year 2 have! We are excited to see the writing that they come up with!
Year 3 have been learning all about how humans need a balanced diet in science and enjoyed designing a healthy meal. We have also been making great progress in Spanish lessons, learning how to introduce ourselves and talk about things in the classroom.
Year 4 has been enjoying the story “Mr Penguin”, exploring the clues and uncovering the truth behind the mystery. The children are using their inference skills and curiosity, showing persistence in understanding the story and thinking critically about the characters’ actions.
Year 5 have been busy using their planning and imagining tools in literacy to write their own newspaper reports. They’ve been thinking creatively to come up with realistic quotes from characters, bringing their articles to life with detail and flair.
Year 6 used their collaboration tool with the rest of the school to practise for our fabulous Harvest Festival. We have also used our imagining tool to write some beautifully descriptive poems using personification, as well as our reasoning and perseverance tools to practise long multiplication.
House Points Total this week!
