Reception: as part of our history curriculum, we have had some interesting discussions to begin to understand the meaning of past and present and we have started reading the story ‘The Great Fire of Tooley Street’ by Sue Rogers. To support our understanding of this historic event, this week our focus has been on learning lots of facts about the River Thames. The children have been wonderful at using their asking questions tool to find out even more information about this landmark.
Year 1: we came across a mysterious scene in the middle room including a picnic blanket, teddy bear and lots of beach related items. We used our asking questions tool to find out more, this led us to our new literacy book The Sea Saw. We soon realised that the teddy was lost and so used our empathy tool to make some missing posters to help find him. In History, we have continued to learn about toys from the past, comparing Meccano from the early 20th century with K’nex from modern days. Next week we will be sharing and talking about our favourite toys. Please send your child in with their favourite toy on Monday.Â

Year 2 used their making links tool in history as they explored why The Great Fire of London spread so quickly. They discussed the building materials, proximity of the houses and the technology available to people of the past to fight fires. They were amazed when they actually got to witness how the fire moved from house to house! A big thank you to Mr Chris and Leanne for lighting the fire and keeping us all safe!
Year 3 have used their reasoning tool to discover what life was like in Roman times. We had a really fun drama workshop based on William Shakespeare’s Julius Caesar where we explored status and tried to imagine how it would feel to be either a Roman slave or an Emperor!
Year 4 got messy in our outdoor science space this week! We discovered how food turns into poo and used our planning tools to recreate its journey through the digestive system using crackers, cake, orange juice and tights! How did we do it? Ask year 4!
Year 5 have been using their making links tool in computing. They started to explore and understand how to use Excel based on their previous work using Word. Some children even managed to create formulas that added and subtracted numbers in different cells. There was a lot of perseverance and collaboration needed!
Year 6 have had a great week full of writing! We have made amazing use of our imagining tools to begin writing our own version of The Tale of the Three Brothers from Harry Potter. We have also used our collaboration tool when learning the words and actions for our upcoming Southwark Splash singing performance.
Drama Club: Yesterday, 9 members of drama club got the opportunity to film with Dr Xand for the next series of Operation Ouch! The children had a fantastic day and were an absolute credit to the school. Keep your eyes peeled to CBBC in the upcoming months to see if you can spot Dulwich Wood Primary on TV!!!
Friend’s AGM was a vibrant and productive session!
In a spirit of unity and enthusiasm, we engaged in meaningful discussions that reinforced our commitment to inclusion, celebrated the value of our community, and emphasised the importance of nurturing positive relationships. The highlight of the meeting was the collaborative effort in working our mission statement. Plus the election of new trustees brought fresh perspectives to our board, promising an exciting future ahead.
New trustees: Mirza Mulic- Treasurer, Sharon Kanolik, Carole Browne, Larissa Zarate Garcia, Leah Williams
The new trustees are joining the existing trustees – Rachel Salter, Venture Kay, Becky Gould, Chairs-Leah Hamilton and Sarah Remy & Interim Chair Stu Privett
The detailed minutes of the AGM will be published next week. Also stay tuned for the official release of our mission statement, next week. Many thanks to Maggie’s who cooked and donated refreshments for the evening.
With this in mind please join and volunteer for the event of the year!!!!
