Learning Journey – Represent Us
A Snapshot of our Week…
Reception have continued their work around the story ‘I Will Not Ever Never Eat a Tomato’. Charlie wrote to them to ask for more ideas to entice his fussy little sister Lola to try more food. The children have been fabulous at using their imagining and making links tools to come up with new imaginative names and exciting origins for some food items (e.g., a beetroot has become a ’spinning top from Saturn’) which they then used for writing lovely letters of advice to Lola, encouraging her to try them.
Year 1 have been using their planning tool to plan a new story based around ‘Stanley’s Stick’ in which they are the main character. They thought of a new object for our story and what it could change into. They are now more confident using both adjectives and adverbs to improve our writing.
Year 2 were so excited to welcome some tadpoles (temporarily) into the classroom to help us with our Science learning on Living Things and their Habitats. We have learned how to take care of them and are using our asking questions tool to keep checking on them!
Year 3 have used their perseverance tool whilst tackling the really hard concept that is fractions! We have also had lots of fun reading the BFG and laughing at the words that the poor giant gets wrong.
Year 4 have been using their planning and imagining tools brilliantly, to create powerful and emotive speeches, which they will be delivering next week in class. We can’t wait to see and hear them!
Year 5 started reading Hidden Figures in literacy, asking questions about, and empathising with some of the amazing women who worked for NASA during the ‘space race’. We used our making links tool to talk about how this links to our study of angles in maths!
Year 6 have been enjoying learning about the Stonewall Uprising and using our imagining tool to write a news bulletin full of powerful adjectives and verbs. The book has also stimulated brilliant discussions about diversity and equality, and we have made great use of our reasoning and asking questions tool.
Easter Egg Raffle: Thank you to everyone who supported this either by donating an egg, Eagles had the most and won the cup, or by buying a raffle ticket. School Council raised just over £500 for the school.

Running Club: A huge thank you from running club to everyone who campaigned for and has supported the school street, running back onto the Estate after the run felt much safer and definitely less polluted!!

Stave Hill Ecology Centre: Year 5 visited Stave Hill Ecology Centre for a school trip last term. We were contacted this week by the centre to say that they had chosen Amelie and Dizzy’s posters for their display!

Cricket Tournament Report from Arthur & Rudy
In the 1st match we bowled well and finished it off by quick runs from Rudy & Liam. In the 2nd match we were level with our opposition until Arthur & Fabian hit some sixes. The 3rd match was anther comfortable win standout performances from Eddie & King. In the 4th match, Edward & Abu bowled well to give a solid base for the batters. Arthur & Rudy took a catch well as Ruan who took 2! The final match had competitors from Rudy & Arthur’s cricket club, despite the strong opposition, we had our best bowling performance of the competition, getting them to minus runs. It was quite tense, but in the last over, 2 sixes from Arthur got us over the line. It was a brilliant team performance; we returned to school with a trophy!
Friend’s of Dulwich Wood Quiz and Chips
A big thank you to everyone who attended the Quiz and Chips last night on Wednesday night. We raised a fantastic £650.
Special thanks to the team who organised it: Beth Collins – fish and chips, Becky Gould – poster design, Mark Gould – bar, John Greswell – video editing, Tim Dawkins – compere, Rachel Salter – quiz writer, Sarah and Leah – promotion and organising.
Any feedback about the event would be greatly appreciated, including your thoughts on how you would like to see fundraising money spent. So if you can spare 3 minutes complete the brief questionnaire by clicking on the link below:
Coming Up

Fruity Friday: We had hoped to promote the use of collaboration by offering a Golden Sticker to children whose parents were able to volunteer to help out.
Unfortunately, a few working Parents are unhappy with this so we are retracting the offer.
For Fruity Friday to continue and to be successful we do need Parents to volunteer!
