EASTER – a message from Dino (read in our assemblies this morning)
Easter is an important part of the Christian religion. It is celebrated in accordance with the moon. I’ll explain.
Easter is determined every year by the moon. It occurs the first Sunday after a full moon which is on or after the spring equinox.
But all of you are probably wondering why Easter even exists. The reason why you kids get delicious chocolate eggs is due to a reason you may not have thought about.
Easter is the time of year Christians celebrate the rebirth of Jesus. Christians believed this day should be commemorated as it was a day that showed mankind the power of God. The resurrection (this means rebirth) began three days after Christ’s crucifixion (this day we now refer to as “Good Friday”). It was a time to rejoice in Golgotha (this was the town he died in). He then went on to preach to many about the wonders of God.
But you’re still wondering why do I have Easter eggs? Well, this is the reason:
According to Christians, eggs represent a new life or rebirth so it seems obvious that you would eat eggs on Easter. But that’s not the only reason. In the medieval period, it was forbidden to eat any eggs in the period named Lent (the 40 days before Easter) so people then were very eager to tuck into one on this special Sunday.
Well I hope you have learnt something about Easter in these past few minutes (I did slave away on this for many an hour). And I hope you enjoy the rest of this performance.
Thank you
Dino
