Learning Journey – Legacy Builders
A Snapshot of our Week…

Reception: We finished our work around the story Look Up! by looking into how the character of Jamal (Rocket’s teenage brother) changed just as he put his phone down and looked at her sister, noticing she was feeling sad and being really kind to her. The children then described what they liked most about Rocket. We realised she is great at using many of our learning tools, like perseverance, imagining, empathy, planning, making links and collaboration!

Year 1: We have been using our imagining tool to write our own version of the story Lost and Found. It was great to see the children applying their phonics knowledge to write some really interesting narratives. In Science we have been using the making links tool to sort the animals according to their diets. We learned some new scientific words: carnivore, omnivore and herbivore.

Year 2: We have had an AMAZING time joining Rosie Revere’s Engineering Academy this week! We used our imagining tool to design our own bridges for the River Thames and absolutely loved using our collaboration and perseverance tools to build a bascule bridge!

Year 3: We are really enjoying reading the Tin Forest; the theme of the story fits so perfectly with Protecting Our Planet Day. Next week we are going to be making shiny animals and birds because we want to create our own Tin Forest and class banners to remind everyone how to look after the forests.

Year 4: We have been writing letters of advice to the farmers about how to deal with The Iron Man. Teachers and children can’t wait for literacy each day to read a bit more of this fantastic story.

Year 5: We used our asking questions tool in literacy to find out more about the American Civil War. We used search engines to find appropriate information and answers. This was helpful in understanding the context of our new literacy book Freedom Bird by Jerdine Nolen.

Year 6: We started our new text The Lizzie and Belle Mysteries with a trip to the Theatre Royal at Drury Lane in 1777 and watched a performance of Othello, a Shakespearean play, whose leading actor was Ignatius Sancho, the first Black actor to perform on stage. Using our asking questions tool, we began our investigation into the incident of the falling Chandelier during opening night.
