Learning Journey – World of Culture

We have loved this Learning Journey, we’ve been finding out about each other’s heritage, similarities and differences, as well as improving our geographical knowledge and understanding. The older children are still discussing cultural appropriation and how that differs to cultural appreciation!

We really enjoyed welcoming all our families to our assemblies this week. The children looked incredible in their outfits and we have all been so impressed with the home learning, particularly the heritage boxes!

We will continue to support ‘Choose Love’ as our School Charity, this charity supports displaced people all over the world. Our next collection will be at the Christmas Performances.

A Snapshot of our Week…

Reception: We concluded our work around ‘Where the Wild Things Are’ on a high, with each class applying all their wild imagination to create their own version of the story, then working collaboratively to perform this for the other class!

Year 1: We visited The Horniman Museum on Monday and had a great time seeing the real-life objects and artefacts from the different continents. We enjoyed making links about these objects and applying it to what we have been learning in class. We have also been using our planning tool this week to systematically find all of the number bonds to 10. There are 11 in total!

Year 2: We have loved using our making links tool on our school trip to the Horniman Museum. We went on an amazing scavenger hunt to find objects and animals from different continents and oceans that our character ‘Finn’ from ‘Ocean Meets Sky’ might also have found!

Year 3: We have finished learning about plants and the rainforest this week, discussing the causes and effects of deforestation and making posters to encourage people to save the rainforest. We also went on a trip to Dulwich Woods, where we learned about many species of tree and created our own tree fact files.

Year 4: We’ve really enjoyed creating our heritage boxes and sharing everything we’ve learned! We also started our new book, Until I Met Dudley; we had great fun using our imagining tools to come up with some incredibly ingenious inventions. We loved sharing our ideas, they really made us chuckle!

Year 5: We have started learning about Nelson Mandela and apartheid in South Africa. We have been reading the The Long Walk to Freedom and using our making links tool to compare it to our other book Black and British.

Year 6: We have worked really hard on writing travel guides for the Ancient Kingdom of Benin. We used our planning and imagining tools to research key information and took great pride as we published our guides.

Show Racism The Red Card

We had a whole school Assembly this morning to discuss how we can ‘Show Racism the Red Card’. All the children have been wearing red to show their support and raise awareness that Racism is not okay.

Mylah and Margot R (both Y5) have written a song…

PE News

On Tuesday Year 3 went to a Football Tournament and made it through to the final but lost on penalties. Although the team were super disappointed (Mr Sean admitted that he was nearly crying too!), our wonderful children held their heads up high and shook hands with their opponents. It was the first time many of these children had represented the school at a tournament and we are so proud of them, well done!
