Spring Term Learning Journey – The Future is Ours
Reception This week, we’ve continued to enjoy some thoughtful discussions about the exciting transition into Year 1. After the transition morning, the children shared their observations and talked about the things they noticed during their visit. Together, we explored what they’re most looking forward to, as well as any worries they might have. We also reflected on what will stay the same and what might feel different next year. To round off our reflections, the children wrote some absolutely fantastic letters to their new teachers, sharing what they’re proud of, what they enjoy, and what they’re most excited about in Year 1!
Year 1 This week we have been using our making links and reasoning tools to learn about ‘Time’. We looked at using calendars to tell when special events happen like birthdays or sports events happen, and how to measure time in hours, minutes and seconds. We also had a fantastic time on Wednesday during Sports Day. We had a bean bag and sack race, an egg and spoon race but the best part was the sprint race! We zoomed off like the Naughty Bus! Thank you parents for coming to cheer us on!
Year 2 have really enjoyed reading a wonderful book called ‘Change Sings’ by Amanda Gorman. We have watched some of her amazing poetry performances and have used our planning, empathy and imagining tools to write our own poems to inspire positive change in the world.
Year 3 have been using their imagining tool to work out how we would solve all the big global issues. We have written some fantastic poetry about helping the world and what we can do to make a change! We have also used our reasoning tool to explore pictograms and bar charts, and have been recording data on how many pets we all have.
Year 4 have continued with our study of poetry, making links across Literacy and also Guided Reading, in which we have analysed a poem where a grumpy badger complains about the incessant tapping of a busy woodpecker! We have also been recapping our maths from across the year, using our perseverance tool to solve arithmetic questions.
Year 5 have been using their empathy goggles in RSE this week when discussing the changes that happen during puberty. They listened thoughtfully and asked lots of questions. We have also been using our planning tool in literacy to draft a poem about change.
Year 6: as we come to the end of a tremendous year, the Y6 team would like to say a massive congratulations! Our SATs results were nothing short of amazing and to say that we are proud would be an understatement. All of the hard work and additional learning has most definitely paid off, leaving them in the best position for the transition to secondary school! We will miss each and every one of you. Also, a massive thank you to the parents of Y6. You have all been incredibly supportive and understanding. We hope to see you all at the Leavers’ Assembly on Thursday 17th at 11am.
