Spring Term Learning Journey – Our World Through Time
Reception: Following our discussion on the need to include a wide variety of food in our diet, we learned about different groups of nutrients and what each one of them does for our body. We have shared other things we can do to keep our bodies in good health, like exercise and having good sleeping habits. We used our making links tool to relate this to our personal experiences, and made a point of independently stopping by the salad bar in the dining hall to include more vegetables in our diet!!
Year 1 had an amazing time at Kensington Palace learning about toys from the past and Queen Victoria’s childhood. We used our asking questions tool to learn more about Victorian toys and our making links tool when comparing and sorting different toys. We also got to see some of Kensington’s beautiful gardens and explored the ‘Dress Code’ exhibition which showed how fashion has changes over the centuries.
Year 2 enjoyed making links in our science learning on habitats. We explored the different types of habitats and used our reasoning tool and oracy skills brilliantly to discuss whether a fox belongs in a woodland habitat or an urban habitat like us. We then went into the garden to look for micro habitats, sketched the mini-beasts we found and wrote about where we found them using adjectives.
Year 3 had another fantastic trip! This time to the Southwark Ukulele Festival, where we used our collaboration and perseverance tools to rehearse and perform an amazing show in the famous Royal Festival Hall. We were all incredibly brave and represented Dulwich Wood very well!
Year 4 have been making links between our study of time and our new maths topic of shape by discussing angles, turns and the movement of the hands of clock. We have also been reading about the Phoenicians of the Mediterranean and the Aboriginal people of Australia.
Year 5: this week in Literacy, we published our reports on NASA. We used our planning tool to plan the different paragraphs and our managing distractions tool to edit and improve our work. We also collaborated by reading each other’s work and offering helpful feedback.
Year 6: In the last week before SATs, Y6 have been using their Whole Tool Kit during all of our revision lessons! The Y6 Team would like to say thank you to all children for their effort and resilience during this time. You have been great! In Literacy, we have been writing letters of advice to the main characters of ‘Paradise Sands’ (three brothers and a little sister), after a class discussion about whether or not they should enter the abandoned hotel…what would your advice be?
PE Update

This week we took a team of Y5 and Y6 girls to the Southwark Cricket championships where they followed up on the boys’ success from the previous week. They were crowned overall winners. Every girl used all the tools in their tool box and Mr Sean and Miss Sinead couldn’t be more proud!
