Spring Term Learning Journey – All the World’s a Stage

Mr. Move It!
All the children experienced a very energetic start to the week with our special guest – Mr. Move It! He led the whole school through a fast-paced routine, then each class had a workshop with him. If you want to practise at home take a look at his YouTube Channel. Thanks to Mr Martel for organising this event.
Reception: The Lunar New Year celebrations will begin on the 29th January for many Asian communities and countries, and Reception have been learning all about it! We have had a great time finding out about many of the traditions around this event, including making paper lanterns, red lucky envelopes with Chinese characters and even learning the Lion Dance! We have all used our perseverance tool to write good luck messages for the Year of the Snake. Kung Hei Fat Choi!!
Year 1: We loved our surprise visit from Mr. Move It! on Monday! We used our imagining tool to help us travel across the world as different animals and it was great to get our bodies moving! We learnt a new song ‘Bananas of the World Unite’. Ask us to perform it for you at home!
Year 2 used their asking questions and imagining tools to work out who could own the props that were left in our classrooms and what they could be used for. What kind of person they might be and why do they need donkey ears?
Year 3 have been using their perseverance tool to work through some tricky division and multiplication work and have been super proud of the progress they’ve made. We’ve also enjoyed using our imagining and collaboration tools during computing lessons to program a sprite using Scratch Junior.
Year 4 have used their collaboration, planning and reasoning tools to light up bulbs in different circuits. They have also used their imagining tools to take themselves back to medieval Scotland and write a ‘missing scene’ from Shakespeare’s ‘Macbeth’.
Year 5 have been using their making links tool on the trip to the Science Museum this week. We explored ‘Wonderlab’ and worked collaboratively in groups to discuss our observations. We saw lightning strike before our eyes, played with forces on giant slides and travelled through space under a canopy of stars!
Year 6 had a great week of learning. We began the week with our amazing session with Mr. Move It! – we definitely found our inner athlete! During Literacy, we have been using our empathy goggles to delve deeper into the characters of our Shakespearean play ‘Romeo and Juliet’, exploring their lives and what life must have been like for them. We have written descriptive pieces using prepositional phrases, written diary entries in role as Juliet, and used our asking questions tool to give advice to both Romeo and Juliet about what they should do next. In maths, we have completed yet another unit and will be moving on to algebra! Safe to say, Y6 has had a busy week of learning.
