A snapshot of our Week:
Reception started the week by learning about the inventors behind some of the gadgets and contraptions that now make our lives easier / better, e.g. phone, cinema, aeroplanes, computers, dry cleaning etc. This led us to start reading ‘Izzy Gixmo’ about a girl who spends her time using her imagining and planning tools to come up with great ideas and then bring them to life. We have also discussed how to manage our feelings when things don’t work out the way we intended, for example, when Izzy’s inventions go wrong.
Year 1 have been using their planning and imagining tools to write their own version of the story ‘The Sea Saw’. In their own stories, ‘The Sky Saw’ they thought about different ways in which the sky could help the lost toy. They used adventurous vocabulary and conjunctions to add more detail to their stories.
Year 2 have been using their reasoning and perseverance tools to write an amazing fact file about the Great Fire of London! We have been learning how to use subheadings to make our writing easier to read and are getting so good at using conjunctions to extend our sentences!
Year 3 have used their planning tools to create an experiment to answer the question “Do people with longer femurs jump further than people with shorter femurs?” – we then went outside and found out the answer! We have also started to learn about angles in Maths which has been quite tricky but we have all persevered greatly.
Year 4 have been really stretching their imagining tool this week as they have continued to create their own unique civilisations. We have designed our own tree houses with special features, come up with our own game and invented our very own alphabet. We also learnt how to communicate using the Pigpen Cipher!
Year 5 have used our planning, imagining and managing distractions tools to write fantastically descriptive stories about ‘Odd’, a character from the book we are studying in Literacy. We used awesome adverbs, tremendous relative clauses and phenomenal noun phrases!
Year 6 had an amazing time at Dulwich College this week, taking part in an opera workshop run by the Wild Arts opera company. We used our collaboration and imagining tools to prepare and perform a brilliant scene from Mozart’s Magic Flute.
Dulwich College Service Day

Year 4 and Year 5 really enjoyed their Science workshops at Dulwich College last Friday. A huge thank you to Ms Stanley (one of our School Governors and Science Lead at DC) and Miss Summers for making organising this great opportunity for the children.

Girls Football
Last Friday our girls smashed it at the Southwark Girls Football Tournament; a huge well done and a big Thank you to Mr Dash and the other Kingsdale Sports Teachers who have been coaching Dulwich Wood Girls since September.
