Learning Journey – Represent Us

Celebration of the Gate
It was so lovely to welcome all our families back to school via the front entrance this week, it was especially heart-warming to see the older children coming in with their younger brothers, sisters and friends.
Thank you for supporting the School Street, we really are starting to feel the difference, very few cars are around at Drop Off and Pick-Up and lots of children are able to safely ride their bikes and scooters to school.
Please aim to get your child through the gate between 08.35 and 08.45 so they don’t miss out on their early morning work.
A Snapshot of our Week…
Reception: We started the week with a tasting session. The children were very adventurous and tried different foods like mango, okra, pomegranate, spinach, edamame beans, celery and beetroot, and then explained which ones they liked and which ones they didn’t. This led us into reading ‘I Will Not Ever Never Eat a Tomato’, where the main character, Lola is an incredibly fussy eater. Lola’s brother Charlie, renames the food in really imaginative ways to make food more exciting for Lola. The children were great at using their own imagination to rename some of the things they had tried in class!
Year 1: We were very excited to come to class and find a magic stick. Since then we have been using our imagining tool to think of all the different things it can become. In science we have started a new topic ‘Plants’ talking about plants that we can eat. Some of us were very surprised to find out that tomatoes are a fruit and not a vegetable.
Year 2: We have loved starting our new learning journey. In Geography, we used our imagining tool to go on a safari to Kenya!
Year 3: We have started an exciting new book called Our Tower. In Literacy we have used our imagining tool to create sound scape poems using onomatopoeias.

Year 4 solved our science week steam question; can you power a clock with vegetables or fruit? They were given some copper wire, copper pennies, zinc nails and a digital clock display with wires and they had to work out, on their own, how to make it work! THEY DID IT! With potatoes, tomatoes, lemons, apples, mushrooms and orange juice! It was incredible to see their faces when the clock worked! Real ‘lightbulb’ moments!
Year 5: We used our asking questions tool to explore the role of certain unsung heroes of the early NASA space missions. We also used our planning tool to start mapping out a report about the history of NASA.
Year 6: We’ve started our new Learning Journey with a trip to North America (virtually) looking at all of the countries that make up North America – discovering some we had never even considered to be a part of it! Using Google Earth, we were able to search the streets of New York, Nicaragua and the Bahamas.
Share and Care

Hello, I hope you’ve all had a great first week back at school!
This is a reminder for Share and Care. Remember that the box is outside Miss Rowe’s office, so if there is anything you want to add for the newsletter, pop it in!
Some examples are listed on the poster. It needs to be positive, thoughtful and something you would like to share with everyone. It’s your chance to be featured in the newsletter, so give it a go! Add your contribution by Wednesday each week. Thank you! Alma.
