Our Learning Journey – Welcome to Our World

Our learning this week…

Reception – We have been continuing to learn the story of Henry Finch. We have been doing lots of thinking, and looking at our thoughts – are they helpful? Positive thoughts make us feel good and help us achieve our goal! In maths we have been ordering numbers and in phonics we have learnt the sounds w, x, z and zz.

Year 1 – We have started our new book ‘Dinosaurs and all that Rubbish’, writing down some dreams as well as using both adjectives and superlatives to describe a setting. In maths we have been looking at the differing ways in which we can partition a number using ten frames and part whole models. Our design and technology learning has been amazing, we have created free standing structures of London landmarks!

Year 2 – We have been on a real adventure this week! We took our passports and tickets to a classroom transformed into Northern Ireland and Scotland and examined the human and physical features of both. In maths, we’ve been exploring what a line of symmetry is and we used our collaboration tool to help us understand and talk about how to use repeated addition. Using our planning tool is going to help us write our own poems in Literacy next week inspired by the Owl and the Pussy Cat.

Year 3 – We have been learning about measurement and have really enjoyed estimating and measuring things in the classroom. We found out about the importance of exercise in science; we were really fascinated by the many benefits of exercise that we weren’t aware of. We finished our book the Tin Forest with a trip to Dulwich Woods. We were over the moon to find our tin sculptures displayed and hanging from the trees. We then had an open-air theatre performance with each class performing the story. It was a really special afternoon. A big thank you to all the parents who helped!

Year 4/5 – We have been amazing mathematicians this week, exploring improper fractions and mixed numbers as well as converting between the two. We then moved on to adding and subtracting fractions with denominators that are multiples. In writing, we completed our newspaper articles about Philippe Petit, the man who walked between the Twin Towers. We wrote in role as journalists working for the New York Times, incorporating eye witness statements as well as factual information.

Year 6 – We have been using our imagining tool to write diary entries from the perspective of one of the main characters in the story of King Kong. Children demonstrated their understanding of the emotional journey this character went on and how his feelings changed overtime.
