Our Learning Journey – Welcome to Our World
Our learning this week…
Reception – Children in Reception have been using their imagination to great effect, making up stories using ‘Tales Toolkit’, find out more on tapestry! They have been applying their new phonics sounds b,h and f  as well as practising ‘the’ ‘I’ and ‘to’. They have been sorting in maths and will be sorted in real life next week when we find out which House everyone is in. Who will be a bright red Falcon, a beautiful blue Eagle or a gorgeous green Hawk?
Year 1 – We turned our class room into a sightseeing bus and conducted a virtual tour of London; checking out some of the fantastic human made features. Children required a special ticket for entry which they were allowed to keep as a souvenir of the occasion. We used the knowledge we have gained on our tour to draw some of the famous landmarks we saw!
Year 2 – We’ve been learning about poetry through The Owl and the Pussy-Cat. We were so excited to read the last part of the poem but now we can’t wait to find out what comes next on the further adventures of our little friends. In geography, we were also doing some virtual travelling by looking into maps and identifying where we are in the world. Maths this week was a bit challenging as we tried to find the missing numbers in number sentences. We used our knowledge of inverse law and our perseverance tool. By the end of the week, we were feeling much more confident.
Year 3 – During literacy, we unveiled The Tin Forest. The children have written some amazing descriptions and during art, have started to build their creatures out of junk. In science, we have started learning about nutrition, healthy eating and balanced diets. It would be helpful if your child could bring in some food labels for us to look at during our science lesson next Wednesday.
Year 4/5 – The children are all super enthusiastic about their new book ‘The man who walked between the towers’, predicting what will happen and being wowed by the fact that it is based on a true story! In Geography they have been collaborating really effectively to produce fact files about the natural features of Mexico and in Science practising their classification skills categorising living organisms by given criteria and then defining their own.
Year 6 – This week we discovered a massive footprint in the playground. We had lots of questions about this mysterious incident and decided to report it in a short article using our asking questions tool to help us probe. The next day, we found out that this giant footprint actually belonged to King Kong! We started to read Anthony Browne’s adaptation of King Kong and acted in role as the women who were being asked to star in his mysterious film. We can’t wait to find out what happens next! From Isla (6A)
