Nursery day

The nursery opens at 08:35, when children are welcomed by their key person. You’ll help settle your child as they hang up their coat and find their name and photo on the board.

A broad range of play-based learning activities are already set up around the spacious indoor classroom, so any tearful goodbyes are quickly forgotten.

Once everyone has arrived, they join their group for “carpet time” and a welcome song before continuing their play inside or outside as they choose.

Our experienced practitioners respond to what each child is enjoying that day, tailoring activities to their interests and developmental needs.

At snack time, the children are encouraged to help prepare a selection of fruit, veggies and breadsticks – serving themselves and each other and pouring their own water, which is freely available throughout the day.

Lunchtime

The morning session finishes at 11:35. For those staying for a full day, lunchtime is a social learning experience, with children eating family-style, setting the table, and tidying up afterwards.

Our staff encourage conversations and offer assistance as needed. Lunch is free and freshly prepared by Dulwich Wood Primary School, with vegetarian options always available.

Afternoon session

After lunch, children return to the indoor and outdoor spaces, as their key workers ensure a nurturing environment that supports each child’s growth, independence, and overall well-being.

Nursery finishes at 15:35, when children are collected – brimming with excitement to share all they’ve done and made, and generally covered with a layer of mud, paint, glitter or all three!

Many families enjoy visiting the nearby playground after nursery, or stopping by Kingswood Library.

Emu Club

For families needing wrap-around care, we offer an optional breakfast club starting at 7:30am. Children joining the breakfast club are cared for at Dulwich Wood Primary School until 8:35am, when they are brought over to the nursery to start their day with their peers.

After the nursery day ends, we also provide an optional after-school club. Children are accompanied to the primary school, where they are cared for until 6pm.
