Children <strong>made links<\/strong> between the story, the celebrations and their own experiences of special occasions with family and friends.  We continued to use our <strong>empathy<\/strong> tool to help us think, talk and learn together, showing curiosity about different traditions and developing an appreciation of the many ways people celebrate around the world.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-6 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#2d53ab\"><strong>Year 1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-7 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#2d53ab\">We&#8217;ve had a great half term exploring our Learning Journey, \u2018Stand by Me\u2019. The children have been learning about the importance of being a good friend, maintaining a healthy mind, and recognising trusted adults they can turn to for support. It has been fantastic to see pupils <strong>making links<\/strong> between these lessons and their everyday experiences. They have been great at using their <strong>empathy<\/strong> goggles and showing kindness towards one another, contributing to a positive and nurturing classroom environment throughout the half term.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-8 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#6fb1e2\"><strong>Year 2<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-9 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#6fb1e2\">We have been using our <strong>making links<\/strong> and <strong>reasoning<\/strong> tools brilliantly as we partitioned numbers and used our knowledge of number bonds to solve addition sums.  We&#8217;ve also been <strong>making links<\/strong> between our learning about the old Crystal Palace building and the Crystal Palace Football Club. The children compared the different logos and discussed which they felt best represented the history of Crystal Palace. They then enjoyed designing their very own logo for the Crystal Palace football team.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-10 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#008f00\"><strong>Year 3<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-11 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#008f00\">This week, the children have impressed us with both their resilience and creativity. In maths, they have been using their <strong>perseverance<\/strong> tool to confidently solve addition and subtraction calculations using formal written methods. In literacy, they used their <strong>imagining<\/strong> and <strong>planning<\/strong> tools to write convincing letters asking for support in collecting genuine tears for the &#8216;Tear Thief&#8217;. We also took inspiration from Stormzy, creating our own raps and designing community centres aimed at bringing people together and strengthening our community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-12 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#d3a21d\"><strong>Year 4 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-13 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#d3a21d\">In Y4, we have used our <strong>reasoning<\/strong> tools to understand different food chains and the differences between producers, consumers, predators and prey. We also perfected our musical performances in class, using our <strong>collaboration<\/strong> tool.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-14 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#659c38\"><strong>Year 5<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-15 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#659c38\">Y5 have used their <strong>imagining<\/strong> tool to write wonderful poems about freedom in literacy, <strong>making links<\/strong> to their learning about Nelson Mandela. They have used a range of figurative language, including similes, metaphors and personification. They needed their <strong>perseverance <\/strong>and <strong>reasoning<\/strong> tools to learn about prime, square and cube numbers!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-16 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#2d53ab\"><strong>Year 6<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-17 wp-block-paragraph\" style=\"color:#2d53ab\">In literacy this week, Y6 explored how to communicate when two people don\u2019t understand each other. Writing dialogue between two strangers led to some wonderfully creative and amusing approaches to the simple task of requesting bread!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div style=\"height:100px\" aria-hidden=\"true\" class=\"wp-block-spacer\"><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-vivid-red-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-18 wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Show Racism the Red Card Day &#8211; Wear Red Day 2026<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-19 wp-block-paragraph\">Last Friday, we proudly took part in Show Racism the Red Card&#8217;s &#8211; Wear Red Day. Children and staff came to school dressed in red to show their support for equality, inclusion and respect, reminding us that everyone is welcome and deserves to be treated with kindness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-20 wp-block-paragraph\">We ended the day by coming together in the playground for a fantastic whole-school Cupid Shuffle! It was wonderful to see everyone dancing, smiling and celebrating the diversity and togetherness that make Dulwich Wood such a special community.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-black-color has-text-color has-link-color wp-elements-21 wp-block-paragraph\">It was a joyful way to share an important message: we stand together against racism, and everyone belongs at Dulwich Wood!<\/p>\n\n\n\n<div
