Our learning at Dulwich Wood this week:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reception<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week, we have continued learning about the Great Fire of Tooley Street, exploring some of the ways life was different during Victorian times when the fire took place. The children have been making great use of their making links<\/strong> tool to compare aspects of daily life then and now, including how people heated their homes, travelled and washed their clothes. A firm favourite was discovering what bath time was like in Victorian households, with many children horrified to learn that families often shared the same bath water and only bathed once a week!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Y1 this week, we were learning about identifying deciduous and evergreen trees and used our making links<\/strong> tool to go around the school garden and playground to see what kind of trees we have in our school. Children were amazing again using their imagining <\/strong>and reasoning<\/strong> tools to find out who or what could have left some clues in their classroom. Do we have a new mystery visitor? We are yet to find out!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 2<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Y2 have had a fantastic week of learning! On map day, we enjoyed developing our map skills by locating familiar places on both our local area map and our school map. We showed great perseverance<\/strong> as we used a range of prepositions to describe where different parts of the school are in relation to one another.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In literacy, we have been using our empathy<\/strong>\u00a0goggles<\/strong> to step into the shoes of the girl in ‘The Water Protectors’. We explored how she might be feeling and discussed how we can stand up for and protect the land, water, and animals around us. The children published and performed powerful speeches, sharing their thoughts and inspiring others to care for the environment. We have also begun planning a report about animals that may be affected by the dangerous oil pipeline. The children have shown great curiosity and compassion as they researched the impact that environmental changes can have on wildlife.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Y3 have used their collaboration<\/strong> and imagining<\/strong> tools excellently whilst practising our play. The children have done so well with learning their lines and delivering them with confidence. We can’t wait for you to see it!!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 4 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Y4 have had another exciting week of creativity and performance! In science, the children made their own panpipes to explore how pitch changes, while in literacy they used ambitious vocabulary to describe imaginative futuristic cityscapes. They also enjoyed a fantastic drumming performance at Kingsdale Foundation School, which was full of energy and enthusiasm!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Thursday, children in Year 4 and other members of the African Drumming club performed at the Kingsdale Percussion Festival. The children provided a magnificent opening to the evening event and were all absolutely brilliant!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 5<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week in literacy, Y5 have been using their making links<\/strong>\u00a0tool to compare and contrast the main characters in ‘Robot Girl’, supporting their ideas with evidence from the text. In geography, we have been using our asking questions<\/strong>\u00a0tool to explore our enquiry question, “Does the Kingswood Estate meet people\u2019s needs?”, making real-life connections to the area around our school.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 6<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Y6 have had a fantastic week filled with both learning and adventure. We enjoyed an exciting trip to Slade Gardens Adventure Playground, where we learnt about rabbits, quails and bees, as well as having great fun exploring the play structures. Back in the classroom, we have been busy in literacy, putting the finishing touches on our narrative writing, carefully editing and improving our work. In PSHE, we have been using our planning<\/strong> tool to help prepare for our transition to secondary school, thinking about organisation, independence and the positive steps we can take for this next chapter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

PE Update <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Athletics <\/strong>– this week Dulwich Wood attended the Southwark Outdoor Athletics Championships where they were overall winners! Special mentions to our wonderful Y4s and also the girls in the 4x100m relay team who smashed the Southwark record!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Cricket Bobby Abel Cup <\/strong>– this week we also attended the Southwark Bobby Abel Cup where our cricketers were fantastic and won the competition overall by a massive margin.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Relationships, Sex and Health Education<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

All the year groups will be delivering their RSE lesson sequence over the coming weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please read the Relationship, Sex and Health Education Policy <\/a>so you know what your child will be taught and how best to support them at home.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Children can be withdrawn from sex education unless it forms part of statutory Relationships Education and Health Education or the science national curriculum. If you have any concerns or queries please speak to your child\u2019s Class Teacher.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
