Our learning at Dulwich Wood this week:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reception<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019ve had a brilliant start to the new half term as we began developing our understanding of the concepts of past and present. We explored the stories ‘Once There Were Giants’ and ‘The Growing Story’, which inspired some fantastic discussions. Using our making links<\/strong> tool, we talked about what stays the same and what changes as time passes. Our highlight of the week was playing \u2018Guess the Baby\u2019; we had so much fun looking at baby photos of our Reception children and spotting how much they have changed since they were little!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Welcome back to our \u2018Flooded\u2019 school, Y1! We arrived on Tuesday to find that something strange had happened and used our\u00a0imagining tool<\/strong>\u00a0to predict what could happen in our new story. We also\u00a0made links<\/strong>\u00a0and wrote rules for \u2018Wet Play in Dulwich Wood Primary\u2019. The children started learning about Rosa Parks and used their\u00a0empathy <\/strong>goggles\u00a0to find out how she could have felt being discriminated on the bus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 2<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Y2 have had a fantastic first week back. They took part in an exciting art printing workshop linked to our new learning theme. Using their\u00a0imagining<\/strong>\u00a0and\u00a0empathy<\/strong>\u00a0tools, the children thoughtfully explored ways to care for our planet and designed meaningful prints. They then transferred their creative designs onto tote bags, producing unique pieces of artwork while reflecting on the importance of sustainability and protecting the world around us. We have also immersed ourselves in our new class text,\u00a0‘We Are the Water Protectors’ The children enjoyed discussing the book\u2019s powerful themes and worked\u00a0collaboratively<\/strong>\u00a0to generate a rich word bank of ambitious vocabulary. They used these ideas to create their own expressive list poems and also created stunning watercolour scenes, inspired by the book\u2019s illustrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Y3 have enjoyed getting stuck into the new learning journey in geography this week. We are learning about rainforests and used our map reading skills to locate the countries where you find tropical rainforests. We have also been using our imagining<\/strong> tool to write a poem all about the sounds we can hear around us. We had to use our managing distractions<\/strong> tool to listen carefully to different soundscapes and then we generated an amazing array of onomatopoeic words to use in our writing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 4 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Y4 have had a fantastic week of learning! In science, the children carried out exciting sound experiments and were amazed to create bell-like sounds, similar to Big Ben\u2019s famous bong, using only coat hangers and string. They also enjoyed a wonderful trip to the BFI Southbank, where they learnt Spanish through film and took part in a range of fun and engaging activities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 5<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Y5 have started the half term thinking about technology and robots in anticipation of our new book ‘Robot Girl’ by Malorie Blackman. We used our reasoning<\/strong> and asking questions<\/strong> tools to debate the role we thought they should have in our lives. In geography, we looked at an aerial photo of our local area and compared it to a map. We used our collaboration<\/strong> tool to work together to spot the differences and then find local landmarks on the photo and the map. On Tuesday, we went to the BFI and watched some excellent films \u2013 in Spanish!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 6<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Y6 have had an exciting and inspiring start to the half term! We enjoyed a fantastic trip to BFI Southbank, where we made strong connections to our prior Spanish learning using our making links<\/strong>\u00a0tool and watched the engaging Spanish film ‘Anina’ Back in the classroom, we have been using our imagining<\/strong>\u00a0tool to create our own versions of ‘The Tale of the Three Brothers’, incorporating a wide range of figurative language to bring our ideas vividly to life. We are so proud of the creativity, enthusiasm and thoughtful connections the children have shown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

End of Year Reports<\/strong>
Your child\u2019s end of year report will be sent home on Friday 3rd July. Alongside their report will be information about their class and teacher for next year. We know this can be a worrying experience for some children (and parents), social stories will be available to support your child through this. Each class will be thoughtfully split by the current teachers to ensure all children are in an engaging and welcoming environment. Please see the rationale for class mixes here.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Transition Meetings<\/strong>
As the transition to certain year groups means the classroom and timetable look different, we will be holding online transition meetings for all parents of children entering the below year groups next school year. More details will be shared closer to the meetings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
