Our learning at Dulwich Wood this week:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Reception<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have continued reading ‘I Will Not Ever Never Eat a Tomato‘<\/em>\u00a0and enjoyed discovering Charlie\u2019s clever trick to encourage his fussy little sister, Lola, to try new foods by renaming them using his imagination, such as calling carrots \u201corange twiglets from Jupiter\u201d. Inspired by his success, Charlie wrote to us asking for more imaginative <\/strong>ideas to tempt Lola to eat different foods. The children have been fantastic at using their imagining<\/strong> and making links<\/strong> tools to invent exciting new names and origins for foods. They then used these ideas to write lovely letters of advice to Lola, encouraging her to give the foods a try. The children also enjoyed re-labelling foods in our role-play greengrocers\u2019 shop.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 1<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week, Y1 have been using their planning<\/strong> and imagining <\/strong>tools to write exciting sequels to ‘The Naughty Bus’\u00a0called ‘The Naughty Bus at Dulwich Wood’. We have been so impressed with how the children used their perseverance <\/strong>toolwhen writing their stories, adding interesting adjectives, adventurous ideas and creative twists. The children were brilliant at using their phonics, punctuation, and story-telling skills to bring their stories to life! We ended the week with a very special visit from the Nursery chicks. The children loved using their empathy<\/strong> goggles<\/strong> to think about how to care for the chicks gently and calmly, showing kindness and responsibility throughout the visit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 2<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week in Y2 we have been focusing on managing our distractions <\/strong>during our learning time. We explored how useful different historical sources can be to understand what happened in the past. We explored eyewitness reports of the Great Fire of London. In maths we used our perseverance<\/strong> and reasoning<\/strong> tools to explore measurement. In literacy we used our planning<\/strong> tool to start writing some amazing diary entries using the past tense and the five senses. We are proud of ourselves this week!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 3<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Y3 were amazing in the Ukulele festival! They used their perseverance <\/strong>and empathy<\/strong> tools to stay engaged and listen to Joe, during a really tricky rehearsal. They were then absolute stars and incredibly brave to get on the stage in front of all those adults at the Royal Festival Hall! They also used their imagining<\/strong> tool incredibly well earlier this week when we did a drama workshop where we we had to create sweets that gave us magical powers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 4 <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Y4 used our collaboration<\/strong> and reasoning<\/strong> tools to investigate melting and solidifying\u2026 with chocolate! We also made papyrus in art as we continued to study all things Egyptian!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 5<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Y5 have been using our making links<\/strong> tool in literacy to explore and reflect on the themes of ‘The Island’. We then moved on to our new text, ‘The Lost Thing’, using our empathy<\/strong> and imagining<\/strong> tools to discuss whether belongings or a sense of belonging is more important, leading to some thoughtful and reflective ideas. In maths, we have been using our reasoning<\/strong> tool to solve problems involving coordinates!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 6<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Y6 have had an absolutely fantastic week of revision! We have been using our perseverance<\/strong>, managing distractions<\/strong> and making links<\/strong> tools to push ourselves further, and we have worked incredibly hard to stay focused and make meaningful connections in our learning. With SATs coming up next week, we are feeling confident, prepared and ready to give our very best. We are so proud of the positive energy, determination and resilience we have shown\u2014\u201cPerseverance is not a long race; it is many short races one after the other.\u201d<\/em> We can do this, and our hard work will pay off!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

British Science Week<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

British Science Week Poster Competition 2026. <\/strong>Congratulations to Princess (Beech), Sophia (Ash), Bea (Ash), Aatma (Cypress) and Alannah (Redwood) for their amazing posters. All 5 posters have been entered into the national competition, to be judged by a panel from the British Science Association. The theme of the competition was about building a positive future for children and the question was: What are children and young people\u2019s visions for a good\/positive childhood? I think you’ll agree that all 5 posters really got to the heart of this issue and the thoughtfulness and creativity of their designs are just brilliant! Let’s keep our fingers crossed for their entries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
