We have enjoyed learning about different cultures. We began by reading Julia Donaldson’s story ‘The Magic Paintbrush’, which is set in China. Using our making links tool, we then built on this learning to explore how China and many other Asian countries celebrate the Lunar New Year, which this year begins on 17th February. In Maths, we have been developing our reasoning skills by exploring the composition of numbers 6, 7 and 8 and investigating doubles within 10. In Phonics, we have used lots of perseverance to secure our Phase 3 digraphs and trigraphs and are now confidently beginning to read longer words. We are so proud of the wonderful achievements of all our children!

Year 1

What a fantastic half term we have had in Y1 discovering ‘Global Identities’. The children really enjoyed making links between the 7 continents that we have learned about in Geography and their own identities. They discovered their family heritage and created a ‘family box’ as a home learning project. The children used their imagining and asking questions tools to find out more about each other’s great heritage boxes. The best part of the term was our trip to the Horniman Museum where we collaborated to find objects from each continent of the world.

Year 2

Y2 explored ‘Ocean Meets Sky’ and used their imagining tool to create their own incredible journey stories. They have really enjoyed comparing life in England and Kenya as part of the Global Identities learning journey. Using their empathy and making links tools, the children considered how people live in different environments and made connections to their own lives. In science, they used their collaboration and asking questions tools to investigate how plants survive in different climates around the world.

Year 3

Y3 have used their planning and imagining tools to plan, write and perform some incredible speeches in the role of Brutus. We have also had a fantastic time using our asking questions tool to identify and research different European countries. We then shared our findings with the rest of the class which was extremely interesting. We were lucky enough to go on a great trip to the Wonderlab at the Science Museum and earlier this week we were invited to Dulwich College to see a non-fiction author called Samantha Lewis. It really has been an amazing half term and we can’t wait to start some more great topics after the break.

Year 4

Y4 have had an exciting and inspiring term. From using their planning and perseverance in science to build their own electrical circuits, to drawing on their imagining and empathy tools to embody Macbeth and King Duncan in dramatic, heartfelt performances, the children have fully immersed themselves in their learning.

They have shown growing confidence in making links across subjects and supporting one another along the way. In guided reading, we read ‘Kensuke’s Kingdom’, exploring themes of survival, friendship, belonging and cultural understanding, while developing empathy and asking questions. In science, we worked with Climate Ed over six sessions to learn about climate change and our impact on the planet.
