We then placed these onto a simple story map with a beginning, middle and end. We have been using our making links tool to identify these elements across different stories, and many children had a fantastic go at creating their own story maps, either retelling familiar tales or inventing stories of their own!

Year 1

What a fantastic first week back we have had in Y1! We have begun our new Learning Journey, ‘Global Identities’, where we have been exploring the continents of the world and learning how to use globes and maps. A mysterious bag filled with space-themed objects appeared in our classroom, sparking lots of curiosity. We asked thoughtful questions and made predictions about the character Astrid from our new book, Astro Girl. The children have loved using their imagining tool and writing in role as Astrid, to imagine what it would be like to be an astronaut and using exciting adjectives to describe being in space.

Year 2

Y2 have settled in to the new term and new year using their empathy and managing distractions tool. We have started a range of new topics and books, such as The Wind in the Wall, which is a Gothic ghost story and our new literacy text. We have explored descriptive language, creating detailed noun phrases and imaginative figurative language. We are also reading Philip Pullman’s Grimm Fairytales, which the children are really enjoying.
