Autumn Term Learning Journey – Voices from the Past <\/h5>\n\n\n\n
<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Reception<\/strong>: After discovering some mysterious fairy lights in our classrooms, we have begun reading ‘Ning and the Night Spirits’,<\/em> a beautiful story about a little boy who is shy and worried about making friends. Everything changes when he meets the ‘Night Spirits’ in the forest, who turn out to be kind and caring, not scary at all (even if the grown-ups in his village think otherwise)! Using our empathy goggles<\/strong>, we have been sharing thoughtful advice with Ning about how he can build friendships with the children around him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 1<\/strong>: We found a mysterious collection of items outside our classrooms on Monday! Year One became detectives and used their asking questions<\/strong> tool to work out what had happened and who the objects might have belonged to. We discovered that the items belonged to a little girl called Sofia and were linked to our new story ‘The Sea Saw’. The children were fantastic at using their empathy<\/strong> tool to think about how Sofia might feel after losing her special teddy, and we even made missing posters to help find him.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 2<\/strong> have started rehearsing for the Nativity play this week which has been very exciting! They have also been exploring changing the shape of different materials in science and investigating whether the force applied to a material affects how much iT squashes. What a curious week for Year 2!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Year 3<\/strong> have been using their reasoning<\/strong> tool to discover which materials are magnetic and which materials aren\u2019t. It was also the turn of Cedar Class to have their trip to Sydenham Hill Woods, where they used their collaboration<\/strong> tool excellently whilst reading maps. Both classes then used all the information we had learnt over the last 2 weeks to create persuasive leaflets, demanding that people start looking after our woodlands!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 4<\/strong> This week \u2014 and over the past few weeks \u2014 Year 4 have been working incredibly hard to prepare a song for a whole-school performance! They drew on their full learning toolkit<\/strong>, especially their collaboration skills, to rehearse effectively and deliver a brilliant, high-energy performance. Well done, Year 4!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 5<\/strong> have been using their asking questions<\/strong> tool to find out more about the American Civil War which is the setting for our new book ‘Freedom Bird’. We used computers to research and find out more information. We managed to make links<\/strong> with the books ‘Black and British’ and ‘Long Walk to Freedom’. To improve our class discussions on this topic we have used our empathy<\/strong> and collaboration <\/strong>tools to understand each other better.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 6<\/strong> has had another fantastic week! We have officially started our countdown to Scotland 2025 – only 9 more sleeps to go! We have been getting stuck in to our fractions unit, using our perseverance <\/strong>and making links<\/strong> tools to multiply and divide fractions. In Literacy, we have started our new text ‘The Rain Player’ based around the dangerous Ancient Mayan game of Pok-a-tok. We used the subjunctive form to write in role as the Ah Kin Mai – giving suggestions on how to save their village from a terrible drought that has taken hold.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
