World Mental Health Day <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Thank you to everyone for supporting World Mental Health Day at Dulwich Wood. We wore yellow and raised nearly \u00a3400 for Young Minds<\/a>!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Reception<\/strong>: As we\u2019ve continued exploring ‘Where the Wild Things Are’, the children have been fantastic at sequencing and retelling the story, and even acting it out together as a class. They were very excited to help one of the Wild Things find his lost items, showing great perseverance<\/strong> as they wrote messages to him and made sure he wouldn\u2019t lose them again! <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 1<\/strong>: In Geography the children have been learning about aerial views and used their making links<\/strong> tool to discover features on Google Maps of our school and playground. Then, we were collaborating, planning and imagining<\/strong> to make a \u2018messy map\u2019 of our classrooms. Children were also asked to make a \u2018messy map\u2019 of their bedrooms as the first home learning project. They really enjoyed this task and created some amazing looking maps. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 2<\/strong> have been exploring the book ‘Flooded’ through drama, role play and imagining<\/strong> themselves as animals in the flood! They have come up with brilliant ideas, making links<\/strong> to prior learning and expressing their feelings brilliantly. They have also carried out an experiment to see what materials are most suitable to build a boat. Many children have been using their empathy<\/strong> goggles<\/strong> and being kind to other pupils. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 3<\/strong> have used their reasoning <\/strong>tool to work out where all the bones are in the body and what is their function. We had great fun drawing around ourselves and trying to work out where each bone went.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Year 4<\/strong> have used their whole toolkits<\/strong> this week to model versions of the entire human digestive system! Working in teams, we successfully digested, extracted the ‘nutrients’, and ejected the ‘waste’ from a mixture of food.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Year 5<\/strong> have been using our empathy goggles<\/strong> to fill out a kindness bingo card over the course of the week. Some of us have already managed to tick off all the mini challenges to do something kind for ourselves or someone else. We have also used our perseverance<\/strong> tool to become better at editing and take our work to the next level!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 6<\/strong> have been using their perseverance<\/strong> tool this week as we tackle long division. They have also been using their planning<\/strong> tool to write a blog about the life lessons our main character, Leila has learnt during her time in the Arctic.

Football Competition News: <\/strong>One team took 1st place and the other 3rd place at the PESSN Mixed Football Competition! The children excelled, using their Whole Dulwich Wood Learning Toolkit<\/strong> to achieve such great outcomes.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Diwali Assembly<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n

We\u2019re excited to be preparing our assembly to celebrate Diwali<\/strong>, the Festival of Lights, and we\u2019d love your help! It\u2019s a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn more about this important festival, and we know many of you have amazing experiences and traditions to share.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

If you or a family member would like to share a story, help with decorations, or talk about how your family celebrates Diwali, please get in touch. Speak to Ms Smith or the office by Tuesday 14th<\/sup> October to express your interest.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Home Learning:<\/strong> please check Tapestry<\/a> for this fortnight’s Home Learning project and the weekly spellings. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Communication:<\/strong> From Y1 – Y6 Tapestry<\/a> is used only as a home learning platform, it is not checked on a daily basis. If you have any information to communicate with Class Teachers please email the office and the message will be relayed. Please do not email teachers directly. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year Group WhatsApp Groups:<\/strong> If you are not signed up, please email the office and they will let the Class Reps know. If you have any concerns about your child’s learning, or queries about the curriculum, this is not the forum! Please email the office and your query will be addressed. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Lost Property<\/strong>: Please make sure that you put your child\u2019s name in all their uniform and we can reunite your child with their lost item. Any unclaimed items at the end of this half-term will be given to ‘The Friends’ to sell at their second-hand uniform sale.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Second-hand Uniform<\/strong>: ‘The Friends’ have a large stock of good second-hand uniform. No more donations are needed thank you! They will be holding another second-hand uniform sale during the Autumn term. Date TBC.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Flu Vaccination: <\/strong>You have the opportunity for your child to be vaccinated at school on Thu 13th Nov (you have already received an email to give your consent). If you would prefer to attend one of Southwark’s Flu Clinics please see the dates below. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
