Autumn Term Learning Journey – Your Mind Matters<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Reception<\/strong>: We started the week by reading the story \u2018The Colour Monster\u2019 which sparked some great discussions about the feelings we all naturally experience at different times. Building on this, we explored the \u2018Zones of Regulation\u2019. We talked about how to handle some of these emotions in a positive way and which strategies we can use in order to go back to feeling calm and happy. This is when we are definitely ready to learn, but also ready to have fun playing. We also used our empathy goggles to help our friends feel good as well!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 1<\/strong> had a mystery object arrive in the garden this week! The children used their imagining <\/strong>and asking questions<\/strong> tools to find out about it. It turned out to be Beegu, the alien, looking for friends.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Year 2<\/strong> were inspired by ‘Here We Are’ by Oliver Jeffers to think about how we can make our world and school community peaceful. The children used their collaboration<\/strong> and empathy<\/strong> tools to share thoughtful ideas with each other. They asked questions<\/strong> to discover what peace looks and feels like for their classmates. Together, they began building a vision of a kind, caring world where everyone belongs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 3<\/strong> have been using their reasoning<\/strong> tool to decide whether or not a Sloth would make a good pet – the general belief was that they would be pretty boring! We have also really enjoyed exploring music from different eras, and we have found a new love for classical music whilst learning about Samuel Coleridge Taylor.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 4<\/strong> have used our imagining<\/strong> tool at full power to think about potential ups and downs for our Guided Reading book, ‘Mr Penguin and the Lost Treasure”, as well as to write a letter to a mermaid!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Year 5<\/strong> have been using their making links<\/strong> tool across subjects. We started reading ‘Black and British’ by David Olusoga and made links<\/strong> with our geography work using atlases to think about the reach of the Roman Empire. We have also continued using our asking questions<\/strong> tool to try and solve the crime committed in ‘High Rise Mystery’!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Year 6<\/strong> have used their planning<\/strong> tool to begin to write a report about arctic foxes, including a range of vocabulary and relative clauses. We also had a fabulous author visit to Dulwich College where we met Ross Mackenzie and were treated to an except of his new book, ‘The Uninvited’.
