Summer Term Learning Journey – The Future is Ours<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Reception:<\/strong> We wrapped up our learning on The Great Fire of Tooley Street with an exciting trip to Tooley Street and the River Thames on Wednesday. It was a fantastic day, and we\u2019re so grateful to all our amazing parent volunteers for helping make it such a success! The children were absolute stars\u2014enthusiastic, engaged, and brilliantly behaved throughout. They had so much fun while deepening their understanding of this part of London\u2019s history. Well done, Reception\u2014you made us all very proud!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 1<\/strong> had a cheeky little friend join us this week, ‘The Naughty Bus’ came whizzing in creating lots of mess. We used our collaboration<\/strong> and planning<\/strong> tools and wrote a letter to ‘The Naughty Bus’, giving him some advice about how he could use his empathy <\/strong>goggles and look after our school. We think it\u2019s worked as thankfully he\u2019s not created anymore messes. Phew!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 2<\/strong> used their empathy<\/strong> goggles to take care of 5 caterpillars as part of their learning about life cycles in science. We used our making links<\/strong> tool to compare the process of metamorphosis a butterfly makes to that of a frog. We were so excited when they emerged from their chrysalides this week and have been taking care of them with fresh fruit and sugar water. We released them into the school garden and watched them fly away to continue their life cycle!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 3<\/strong> have been using their imagining<\/strong> tool and empathy<\/strong> goggles to imagine how it would have felt to live in Pompeii! We have created incredible diary entries, beautiful descriptions and we even pretended to be survivors being interviewed by BBC Pompeii.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 4<\/strong> have been enthusiastically making links<\/strong> between our celebration of Windrush Day and our study of rivers. In Monday’s Geography lesson, we discovered what Tilbury Docks \u2013 the place where the Windrush moored \u2013 are like today. Then on Tuesday, we identified features across the Thames and London from the fantastic vantage point at Greenwich Observatory! While we were there, we heard the podcasts we had created with Peut-\u00catre Theatre earlier in the year. You can listen to them too! <\/a>  4A asked the questions for the episode \u201cWhat are Meteors?\u201d and 4B asked the questions for \u201cWhat are Black Holes?\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 5<\/strong> have been using our imagining<\/strong> tool to write a balanced argument in literacy. We also used our planning<\/strong> tool to create a plan for a sci-fi chapter, based on Robot Girl, that we will be writing next week. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

<\/div>\n\n\n\n

Year 6<\/strong> has had yet another fantastic week! We began with a trip to Dulwich Park on Monday – thankfully the weather wasn’t too hot! We spent the morning playing games, using our collaboration<\/strong> and perseverance<\/strong> tools, then ate our lunch in the sun. In class, we have begun our new text ‘Can We Save the Tiger?’, a fantastic book all about endangered animals. We are planning<\/strong> and researching a variety of animals (some we didn’t even know existed) to write a persuasive speech to help save the animals. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Windrush Day<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

This week we celebrated Windrush Day with a special assembly led by Mr Crawford and a delicious Caribbean inspired lunch! Thank you to all the children who dressed up and shared their Caribbean heritage.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Swimming <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Swimming lessons for the year have finished now that Dulwich College will begin their Summer Break. Well done to all the children who have persevered and made some great progress in the pool. A big thank you to Miss Sin\u00e9ad , Mr Se\u00e1n, Rob and Mario who have nurtured our love of swimming! We are looking forward to watching some of our children in Y5 & Y6 compete at the Swimming Gala at Alleyn’s next week!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

This week the Strings’ Group performed alongside Dulwich College Boys in an exceptional collaboration! We are so proud of the children who have dedicated their time to learning either the violin or cello. Going forward, we will have some vacancies for children in Y4 & Y5 to join the group. Parents’ Yoga Workshop<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The summer holidays are just around the corner. For many the season is very busy and possibly stressful. Local yoga teacher and Dulwich Wood Parent Mikaela is offering a FREE nervous system yoga workshop for all school parents on Mon 30th Jun from 19:30-21:30 <\/strong>in the Primary School Upper Hall.

Primary School Sports Day <\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sports Day will be held on Wed 9th Jul<\/strong> at the Dulwich College Track. Y1 – Y6 events will take place in the morning before lunch and Reception events will take place in the afternoon. We will provide more details closer to the time.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Relationships and Sex Education (RSE)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

In Summer 2 all the year groups will be delivering their RSE lesson sequence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Please read the Relationships and Sex Education Policy<\/a> so you know what your child will be learning about and how best to support them at home to talk about this learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lessons are in line with national guidance and are all age-appropriate. If, after reading the policy, you have any questions please contact Miss Bristow.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We have been making preparations for the new academic year!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

End of Year Reports will be sent home on Fri 4th Jul. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

At this time you will find out who your child’s class teacher will be next year. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Children will meet their new class teacher on Tue 8th Jul. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
