Spring Term Learning Journey – Our World Through Time<\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Reception<\/strong>: We have been reading \u2018I Will Not Ever Never Eat a Tomato\u2019, where the main character, Lola, is an incredibly fussy eater. Lola\u2019s brother Charlie, renames the food in really imaginative ways to make food more appealing for Lola. Charlie wrote to us asking for more ideas to entice his fussy little sister to try more food. The children have been fabulous at using their imagining<\/strong> and making links<\/strong> tools to come up with some great new names and exciting origins for different food items (e.g., a beetroot has become a \u2019spinning top from Saturn\u2019) which they then used for writing lovely letters of advice to Lola, encouraging her to try them.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 1<\/strong> have enjoyed learning all about different materials and their properties in Science.  The children used their collaboration<\/strong> tool to group a variety of objects based on their properties. Some new scientific words we have learnt this week ARE transparent, opaque, absorbent and waterproof. We are looking forward to experimenting and doing fair tests using different materials over the coming weeks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 2<\/strong> have enjoyed learning all about volume and capacity. We made use of the wonderful weather and the outdoor learning area to measure the capacity of different containers. We then used the water to water the plants!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 3<\/strong> had an amazing trip to the London Wetland Centre this week. We used our collaboration<\/strong> and imagining<\/strong> tools to begin our journey to becoming Guardians of the Wild. We worked together to explore the beautiful Wetland surroundings and connect with nature in lots of different ways. It was a brilliant experience, which we can now build on, using our planning<\/strong> tool to think about which other nature activities we can do in the future.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 4<\/strong> have continued learning about the discovery of Tutankhamun’s tomb, and written newspaper reports about the opening ceremony. We have also been exploring time in our maths lessons, and using hieroglyphics to write coded messages about Ancient Egypt.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 5<\/strong> used their making links <\/strong>and asking questions<\/strong> tools on our trip to the South London Botanical Institute, where we learnt about plant reproduction.  We observed and compared the different flower parts, worked scientifically using microscopes and collaboratively to explore the botanical garden!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 6<\/strong> are still buzzing from their trip to Dulwich College last Friday. We used our collaboration<\/strong> and empathy goggles<\/strong> when participating in a number of different activities from paper quilling to country dancing! We are almost near that time of year\u2026 SATs! With just under two weeks to go, we have been revising all of our learning from Y3 to Y6 – making links<\/strong> along the way. Finally, we’ve started our new text ‘Paradise Sands’. We discovered an unknown bountiful fruit platter and were faced with the question ‘Should we eat the fruit?’ after reading a letter explaining the bargain we would have to make.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On Wednesday Dulwich Wood took a team of Y5\/6 boys to Burgess Park to compete in the Southwark Cricket Championships. They boys won every game in the morning! Despite tough opposition from Redriff in the 26 degree afternoon heat, they were victorious and returned to school with another trophy for the cabinet!<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
