Thank you to everyone for attending our Easter ‘Sing-a-long’ Assemblies this morning! Thanks to Miss Wells and teachers for preparing the children! Thanks also to the Friends and Chartwells for organising the coffee morning. It was great to see so many parents\/carers join us this morning. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Reception<\/strong> We\u2019ve seriously been busy bees in Reception during the spring term!! We have worked very hard in getting through Phase 3 phonics and are now beginning to read more fluently and to attempt independent sentences. In maths, we have been delving deeper into our understanding of number, working really hard to secure our bonds within 10, as well as learning lots about shapes and measuring. We have expanded our understanding of the world, both by looking into the seasonal changes in the environment, and by learning about different cultural and religious celebrations like Lunar New Year, Eid and Easter. Whew!! We are ready for the holidays, happy in the knowledge that we\u2019ve been working hard and our skills and knowledge are now in full bloom!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 1<\/strong> What a wonderful term of growth we\u2019ve had! We\u2019ve loved learning all about Shakespeare, acting out different parts of ‘The Tempest’ and creating our own scenes during literacy. It has been fantastic to learn all about different types of plants and carrying out our own investigations, making predictions and observing change over time. We\u2019ve enjoyed exploring mass during Maths, using balance scales to compare the weight of different objects. Well done Year 1 – have a great Easter break!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 2<\/strong> have definitely used all of their Dulwich Wood Toolkit<\/strong> this term as we have tackled new learning while consolidating our prior knowledge. In maths, we really used our perseverance<\/strong> tool when learning about division. We also used our making links<\/strong> tool to know that our multiplication facts can also help us with division! In English, we loved learning about Mary Seacole and used our empathy goggles<\/strong> to imaging how brave she must have been to overcome such adversity. We have finished the term in Rosie Revere’s engineering academy and have been busy using our planning, reasoning and collaboration<\/strong> tools to build our very own bascule bridges this week!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 3<\/strong> have had an amazing Spring term full of learning and fun. We’ve enjoyed trips to the Globe Theatre and the Science Museum, making links<\/strong> to our learning about Julius Caesar and Light. In Literacy, we have been inspired to write in a variety of ways, including persuasive speeches and exciting adventure stories, all the time developing our use of vocabulary and sentence structure. We’ve used our perseverance<\/strong> and asking questions<\/strong> tools in maths to make great progress with some tricky concepts in fractions, mass and capacity. History has been all about the Romans and we used our collaboration <\/strong>tool to become Roman soldiers and create different battle formations. British Science Week challenged us to use our planning <\/strong>and reasoning<\/strong> tools to set up three different experiments to find out how shadows change over time.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 4<\/strong> have had an incredible half term! We learnt lots of history \u2013 first about the Anglo-Saxons and now starting the Ancient Egyptians; became expert djembe drummers and electricians; finished a tremendous World War 2 novel, and much more besides!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 5<\/strong>: This term we have been immersed in the world of ‘The Tempest’. We have made a trailer using Movie Maker, read the text, written imagined scenes and performed to each other! We also learnt about Ancient Greece and read ‘Who Let the Gods Out?’ by Maz Evans. In maths, we have learnt more about fractions, decimals and percentages. This week we even did statistics! In Science last week we released our butterflies into the playground as a great end to our Science Week learning.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 6<\/strong> have had a jam-packed Spring Term! From author visits to trips to the Globe theatre; learning inside and outside the classroom. We have been using our Whole Tool Kit<\/strong> to make the most out of every learning opportunity and having fun whilst doing it. We’re ending the term by publishing our Gothic Tales and creating artwork to go alongside our creations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Celebrating British Science Week 2025<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The theme for this year\u2019s British Science Week was \u2018Change & Adapt\u2019 and every class at Dulwich Wood has shown amazing enthusiasm while putting their scientific skills to the test. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The range of investigations has been brilliant to see: observing changes in nature around the school; making changes to the growing conditions of broad beans; exploring how shadows change over time; building and adapting rockets; observing the metamorphosis of a butterfly and creating inventions to change how we live. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

There has been a real buzz around the school and the children\u2019s excitement for science has been wonderful to see and hear! <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n

Thank you to Derin and Miss Curwen for leading our Eid Assembly on Tuesday. It was great to hear how our children celebrated with their families. <\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n\n\n\n
