Spring Term Learning Journey – All the World’s a Stage <\/h5>\n\n\n\n

Reception: <\/strong>We came back from the holidays to discover that our role play had been turned into a Superheroes HQ! This prompted us to start reading \u2018Super Milly and the Super School Day\u2019 by Stephanie Clarkson. We have been using our super-imagination and have really enjoyed dressing up as superheroes, making our own props and thinking about our own superpowers, both the imaginary and the real ones (e.g. being a good friend, being kind, funny etc.) just like Super Milly!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 1<\/strong> had a fantastic trip to Shakespeare\u2019s Globe where the children were able to see first-hand the wonderful world of William Shakespeare. The children used their making links<\/strong> and asking questions<\/strong> tools during the tour of the Globe and then used their imagining <\/strong>tool to make a love potion and go on an adventure with fairies, just like in the play A Midsummers Night\u2019s Dream.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 2<\/strong> used their whole Dulwich Wood Toolkit<\/strong> during their trip to the Globe theatre on Tuesday. The children impressed their group leaders with their amazing enthusiasm for ‘A Midsummer Night’s Dream’ and were so excited to sit so high up during our tour of the theatre. We even had a member of the public tell us how amazing our singing was while we were waiting for the train at Sydenham Hill. Thank you again to all the parent volunteers who made the trip possible.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 3<\/strong> had an amazing time at the Globe Theatre on Monday. We used our asking questions <\/strong>tool to find out more about the history of the building and what it is like to perform and watch a play there. We also enjoyed using our imagining<\/strong> tool during our workshop – getting into the role of a Roman mob, senators and conspirators. It has been a fantastic way to begin our learning all about Shakespeare’s play Julius Caesar!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 4<\/strong> used our making links<\/strong> and asking questions<\/strong> tools on two fabulous trips, first to the Globe Theatre on Monday \u2013 where we had a tour and did a drama workshop on Macbeth \u2013 then to the Science Museum on Thursday, where we focused on our electricity topic and much more besides! A huge thank you to our parent volunteers for making sure these could happen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 5 <\/strong>have been using their collaboration<\/strong> and imagining<\/strong> tools this week in computing to create a trailer for ‘The Tempest’. We have also been making links <\/strong>and asking questions<\/strong> in science to describe the reproductive process of some plants. We collaborated as a class to simulate the pollination process!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Year 6<\/strong> have been discovering more about the mysterious characters from our text ‘The Wind in the Wall’. Using our imagining<\/strong> tool, we have been writing detailed character and setting descriptions, focusing on using figurative language. We then read them out in class with spooky music in the background to enhance our story telling. We have also been continuing our science experiment about mould and we have discovered gruesome facts about a variety of moulds. Did you know that penicillin (which is commonly used for antibiotics) was first produced from a naturally occurring fungus? Amazing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Mobile Phones at Dulwich Wood<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Just a reminder that we are actively encouraging children not<\/strong> to bring mobile phones to school unless it is absolutely necessary. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

I spoke to KS2 in assembly today to remind them of this, and that sanctions are in place if mobile phones are used inappropriately on school premises at the beginning or the end of the day – such as taking photos – then phones will be confiscated and banned for 2 weeks. Parents will need to come into school and collect the phone. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Children must take their mobile phone to the office at the beginning of the day and collect at the end of the day. If you collect your child from school they don’t need to bring a mobile to school. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the meantime we are talking to children about how to use the internet safely, and that apps such as WhatsApp etc… are not age-appropriate for children at Dulwich Wood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is important to remember that no primary school student meets the age criteria for social media apps \u2013 Instagram, Snapchat, WhatsApp, X or TikTok \u2013 all of which have a minimum age of 13.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This means that children are especially vulnerable, and should inappropriate content be shared, however innocently or accidentally, the parent or carer of that child is, by law, liable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
